The driver of this Fort Robinson team worked for my dad back in 1962. He now wears a patch over one eye. While moving to a new ranch job many years ago, he dropped his suitcase down a flight of stairs. A .22 pistol in the suitcase went off, and the bullet ricocheted up and down the stairway eventually putting out the cowboy's eye. He tried a glass eye for awhile, but settled on just covering it with a patch. Jim was one of my heros in those days. He didn't own a vehicle at the time, so rode his horse "Red" eight miles to town on Saturday nights. You could set your watch by his Saturday night ritual. As the clock struck midnight, he and his girlfriend would ride ol' Red double down Main Street, singing Wolverton Mountain at the top of their slightly enebriated lungs. :-)

A delightful couple. He is a long-time cutting horse enthusiast, and she is a very good western artist.

Nothing like a 4th of July celebration like that one! I'll bet folks had a great day there, even those that bucked off. Thanks for the trip.
