Fresh air and early morning music

It is a beautiful morning here on the Green Valley. 1.4 inches of rain came during the night. I opened up the windows to let the fresh air in. A Mourning Dove is cooing (or whatever they do.) I always like their music but for the first time paid closer attention. They sure know how to count to three. I whistled their song while going to the piano to check on the notes they go by. A couple eighth notes (middle C then E) then three half notes, (G G G) in the octave below. I should have shut the window before I went to the piano. My fumbling around on the keys must have turned the dove off, at least he hasn't uttered a note since. I am anxious to check on the next one to see if they all sing on the same key. This is what Webster says about the Mourning Dove: "The Carolina Turtle Dove (Zenaidura macroura) common in North America and famous for its plaintive note." "Plaintive" was not in my vocabulary. Webster says "expressing a subdued sadness, mournful." Before all this research I thought the name was Morning Dove and its "Good Morning" message always cheered me up. I still like their two eighth notes and three half notes in perfect pitch and harmony. Their song is a happy one as far as I'm concerned!

"expressing a subdued sadness, mournful."

That must be the city folks perspective because it signals the start of another day of work at a place they would rather not be.

I am going to go with your "good morning" theory.

We have Mocking Birds that wake us. Mocking Birds sing the same thing over and over, then switch to another sound and take off on it. They sure have a variety in their vocabulary. I am so tone deaf I wouldn't know middle c from a left c or right c or a see-saw. Music is a gift that God gave to all of us, and to a select few (not me), He gave the ability to make it. I do love to listen!

I agree with the Mocking birds although there's nothing like our Carolina doves !! God Bless !! :)

We were camping out at a favorite lake of ours one time and this mocking bird started singing before daylight. My wife and I laid there listening to that bird in a live oak right by our tent singing for at least a good forty minutes and it never snag the same tune twice. We got to laughing so hard our sides hurt. There was a mocking bird in our neighborhood a few years back that sang car-alarm songs !

I've been waking up to the soothing melodies of the magpies this summer. This combined with the percussion provided by the local woodpecker on my chimney is enough to put me in the perfect mood for the PB forum on many mornings. :?
