Friends in areas effected by the storms

We got at least fifteen inches of snow out of this last storm. Getting around is a bit challenging, as we are completely out of practice. It's been years since we've had this much snow at one time.

I went to a bull sale today and there were a lot of smiling faces thinking about the grass that's coming... When- it comes :???: They are predicting temps with highs in the 30's for next week...

At least the bulls probably sold better with the widespread moisture. Maybe there won't be so many pairs primed to sell because of no pasture available. More cows on grass = more bulls needed.

We were suppose to get 6 to 8 inches and we barely got white. Yesterday it snowed all afternoon and it melted as soon as it touched the ground. This morning the ground is white, but it will be gone by this afternoon. That was nice. Sure would have liked some of that storm up here. Oh well, the rain is coming :)

sounds like it is North Dakota's turn this weekend. 8-12 inches predicted for the central part of the state.

Yep- most snow sounds to go east of us or stay in Canada - and they are predicting temps to stay warmer than before in our area.. We went with the revised forecast and hauled cows that calved out to the north/spring pasture today....A damned if you do- damned if you don't situation-- keep them on the River bottom- where I can easily watch them- but this wet nasty weather risks scours-- or kick them out on the prairie where actually they have more tree protection and deep coulee wind protection than anywhere else....Set them out a few hay bales and straw bales in the protected area- a lot of old grass to fill on---- and said bring on the moisture... :)

Yup sure sounds like a mess in the process hopefully we dont see the full effects of the storm but it sure will make for a long tomorrow.

Started raining around 8PM- changed to snow sometime after midnite... And now we have 4" of wet wet snow on the ground...

Ya- its sounding like our place south of Opheim isn't getting much either... Still snowing and blowing down here on the river- temp is 28- and we've probably had at least 6 inches of this wet slop now...I got stuck tight in the mud trying to feed the neighbors cows this morning- and had to get the SIL to jerk me out...

I heard that some down around Jordan have already had an inch of moisture out of this storm...
IF Spring ever comes- and it warms up- the grass is going to be leaping out of the ground......

It started storming here last night about midnight. Blowing and snowing really hard out of the SE. All day yesterday the wind blew something fierce.
Today it has kept snowing but the wind has gone down some. At least it isn't a roar, like it was.
We have no idea how much snow we have gotten, but it sure is a wet snow. It is warm enough that it is melting when it hits the ground. We had some snow left from the last storm and it's completely white outside now.

A friend of ours contracts his semi out (he is always the driver)
to a local oilfield company and he drives all over
this part of the country up to the Canadian border, plus he covers a lot of this side of ND. I asked him
where the most snow was and he told me above highway 2 in ND.
He said that all winter they got snow when we didn't and they have
some huge drifts. The last two snowstorms we got here, they did not
get above highway 2, so maybe the dry pattern is changing. One can
hope, anyway.

I hope a lot of calves aren't lost in this storm.

Stay safe, everyone!

I see one of the Bismarck TV stations is reporting they already have 19 inches and its still blizzarding there....

US National Weather Service Glasgow Montana

6.8 inches of snow has fallen at the Glasgow NWS office as of 6pm MDT. This broke the old record of 5.0 inches set all the way back in 1896!

I'm getting tired of breaking records- would prefer to see normal/average...

We got 2 inches of a warm spring rain today on top of two inches last Thursday.

The wheat is growing like gang busters and will be ready to combine in mid-May as usual. The ryegrass and clover is knee high in places and the corn is 4-6" tall.

Supposed to be 84 degrees tomorrow with an occasional shower throughout the week.

Presently grazing 150 800 lb. calves on 60 acres of ryegrass & clover and they ain't even beginning to graze it down.

Life is good.

Glasgow received 7.5 inches of snow from Saturday night through 6am this morning. That brings the total snowfall for this season to 59.8 inches moving it into a tie for 4th place all-time. Three of the top five season in Glasgow have occurred in just the last ten years.

Even though April 2013 is just two weeks old, this month already ranks as the 9th snowiest April on record with a total of 9.2 inches so far.

Here's the list of the top five snowiest seasons on record in Glasgow (records date to 1893):

1. 108.6" in 2010/11
2. 70.7" in 2003/04
3. 60.9" in 1951/52
4T. 59.8" in 1915/16 and 2012/13

And its still snowing....

Hard to guess, but thinking we got at least a foot yesterday and last night. That is the first real amount of snow we have had the last 2 winters. So glad to have it, as it was looking pretty scary dry. Darn good start!!!

The photo of the cattle wanting in those doors reminds me of a few years ago when they had a storm in the Kearney, NE area that left DEEP snow and drifts. We couldn't see over the 'sides' driving down hiways going down there for a meeting some time later. People told of cattle breaking out of feedlots and getting INSIDE a nearly finished building and weathering out the storm, much to the dismay of the building contractors! It was either a nursing home or assisted living facility, I believe. One woman told of her family bringing the generator to the house for just a few hours so she could cook and do laundry, then taking it back to run what they needed to care for the cattle.

We are so fortunate here, we lost electricity for only a couple of hours. but, we didn't have any ice after the earliest part of the storm, and it was very little at that.

Looks like, aside from losing a calf or two, and not enough sleep for some of us, we are on the 'win' side with this one. Hearing of a new one with potential for six inches or more later this week. We shall see..........
