Maybe the whole country needs to shut the engines off on everything ??
KSDK)KSDK, MO Truckers across the country plan to turn off their trucks on April 1 in an effort to show how much of an impact they have on the economy and to put pressure on the government and big business to make changes.
For many independent haulers, the price of fuel, along with the taxes included in the price, are too much to bear.
Some shell out hundreds of dollars every time they go to the pump.
The price of diesel was over $4.00 per gallon in Troy, Ill. Friday morning.
The average big rig only gets about six miles a gallon and many trucks are forced to make cross-country trips, which is about 3,000 miles each way.
In the last three years alone, drivers NewsChannel 5 spoke with, said they've seen the price of diesel triple at the pumps. Drivers said they pay between $3.94 and $4.29 for a gallon of diesel depending on where they are in the country.
Many drivers said they know independent drivers who are being forced out because of the high price for diesel.
