I drove to Punta de Mata today to buy a load of pig and chicken feed, pick up a driveshaft for my disc mower that I'd brought last week to a machine shop for repair, and accomplish a few other chores.

Filled up a 55 gallon drum with 95 octane gasoline and also filled up the Ford Triton which was at less than half a tank. Total cost was 26 bolivares.

Now, at the official exchange rate of 6.3 Bs/$ that would be a bit over $4 for everything. At the unofficial rate (black market which is what I use) of 40 bs/$, that would mean I paid about $0.65. Diesel's even cheaper, much much cheaper.

I understand giving gifts to the citizens of the country, but this has now passed the point of being stupid.

So if I understand correctly, you bought approximately 65 gallons of premium octane gasoline for $0.65? Leaded or unleaded and does it contain ethanol?

And diesel even cheaper.

Unleaded, and no, it does not contain ethanol.

A 55 gallon drum of diesel costs 11 bolivares....no matter where you fill up because everyone has the same prices. At the black market exchange rate of 40 bs/$, that works out to $0.28 per DRUM.
