Been working on a gate idea.

One that will open from either end.

Got it working but it needs beefing up a little.

Would anyone else see a need for it?

That would be handy for the endgate of a stock trailer. There are sure times when it would be much more convenient if the back gate hinged on the opposite side.

I can think of two or three place on this place that I could see a benifit to something like that. Mostly near my pens..

That's where I needed one. Sorting. Keeps me from having to run cows past a gate and run them back up to the pen I wanted them in the first place.

Hmmmmm, Haven't thought about the rear gate on a trailer. But most trailers now have double gates on the rear, don't they?

I can see it now.........

"MIKE'S GATES" - "WE SWING EITHER WAY"

:D :D

The two trailers we have here, one is a fullswing.. nothing else. I think it hinges on the right side of the trailer.. The other has a full swing with a slidding gate on the left side, it also hinges on the right side.. That is what most I see around here are like..

What we've been trying to figure out a way to do, is hangin gates that will open either direction...all the way up against the fence it's on. In our corrals, the gate where the cows come in, is mounted on a 4 inch pipe post. it will open up to 90 degrees to either direction...but that's not far enuff, cows get ruff and it don't matter which way it's opened they put pressure on it. Gonna end up bendin it all up I'm afraid.
One that opened from either side would be handy as well. I can think of several places somethin like that would work around here. But wouldn't having it put together like cow panels work? pins on either side, so that you could take the pins out whenever and whichever direction you wanted to swing it?

I was expecting pictures LOL

Lilly, The gates in my barn are hung on 4" steel pipes. When I hung them I welded a "Stand-off" on the post (short piece of 3" X 3" channel iron), then welded the hinge to that, so that the gates will swing all the way open or 270 degrees on the corners and even more on the gates at the dead end of a fence.

Yes Tim. We be "Swanging".

You might have to turn your monitor on its side to look at these, but this is a HyQuayle (sp?) gate in a calving pen that opens both ways. It doesn't work too bad as long as its sprayed with a little WD40 from time to time, and make fer dern sure one side is completely latched before you open the other.
