Did you get the 6410 running?

I was out in the hills with protein for the cows today, Coming home still about 6 miles north my tractor the 7420 started stuttering,like fuel trouble but not smoking. It died so i walked to the top of a hill to get service to call home to get someone coming with the other tractor to tow me home. I went back checked some fuses and tried to start it again. It started and ran perfect. I put the hood down the fuse cover on and booted it for home. I noticed a fault code flashed up about low voltage or something. It didn't stay up long and I couldn't get it to repeat it at home.
 
My 6410 is still a boat anchor in the yard. Found out a JD mechanic was at the neighbors today.
He was here at dark and found the problem. The forward/reverse valve in the transmission is stuck in reverse, thereby not allowing the nuetral safety switch to shut off and let the tractor start.
With the best of luck I could have some water in the system that froze it in reverse. I will try heating it up and see if that works, if not the oil will be warm and drain easier.
The next step is to drop the bottom out of the trans. It holds all of the valve banks that concern forward/reverse/safety switch,etc and I will then find what is causing the blockage of oil to the system. The mechanic said this is a weak spot in this model and there is probably a piece of a spring from one of the valves lodged in there. It's pretty simple as long as I don't lose any parts in the snow on my "shop" floor.
 
those left hand reversers are a dream for loader work, but when push comes to shove, it is hard to beat an old shifting lever for simplicity, and reliability.
 
That old 8 speed powershift that those 4020's had was a pretty good tranny. If that model of JD would of had a good cab they were the perfvect ranch tractor-well front end could of been heavier too I guess. There were 100's of them up in this country-guys even cleared land with them lol.
