I put gas in a jug for a lady in a cream colored dress not long ago. I stop for any woman on the road . Flat, out of gas, etc. I'd feel castrated if I didn't . I'll hold the door even for an obvious bra burner. I've never had one get mad yet. My mother has never mowed the yard. My wife and daughter do that though. Conversly, I don't cook, do dishes or house work. I don't even really know where my clothes are. My wife brings them to me in the bathroom every morning.

Judith...I'd say ck prices and if you could find one of the right size to meet your needs. One thing about them are are dependable...low maintenace...and a good company to deal with.
I'm like you I'm independent and like to know about the workings of things and I'll fix most things that are broke, no matter what it might be. I figure it's already broke so what more damage can I do???

I'd bet GenRac has a dealer in Canada....ck their web site. I cked out about 3 types before I made the decision.
I let the local ' gas man' hook mine up cause I didn't feel like I knew enough about the regulators, etc to do it. All in all...it was no big deal.!

I'll check into a bunch of them. Not enough lite up in George to run a proper solar array, plus they are blinkin pricy. I will have a wood stove for sure as the mill ends up there are free for the taking and you have a never ending supply. I'll see if I can find a good used Fischer stove. They are pretty hard to come by though. If I could get a poppa bear, the place will be so hot, I'll have to live on the porch. That's the beauty of a small square footage place, it doesnt take much to heat it.

Quit , you're being silly. Everyone here at ranchers at least would do the same. I know I like doing it.Not being silly at all. I think there are alot of really good people on the board. They are the type of folk I grew up with. The coast was a truely eye opening experience. I have never lived anywhere so odd. Every man for himself here. Hence the desire for the mass exodus on my part I like knowing I can stop over for coffee at the neighbors. You would never do that here! Judith- you can have your pickup wired to run a couple of AC tools- I have a DC to AC converter on my pickup to run drills and stuff when I'm fencing....Lot of the construction outfits have them wired in to run the little stuff...

Good point. Hadn't thought of that but then again I don't get to 40 below. DC inverters are what OT is talking about Judith. With a heavy alternator they can run quite a bit of juice. I don't think you'll do much through a cig. lighter though. aren't they fused at 10 amps ? 10 amps at 12vdc is 120watts which is only 1amp at 120 vac. Not much getting done with 1 amp.Oldtimer said:

BTW, if you search around, you should find some still floating around after the Y2K bust. Lots of folks bought them then.
At our cabin, we have propane lights, stove and fridge, just use the generator for power tools if we need them. And for the wifey's blowdryer. Her dad insisted on "roughin it" so would never let the girls get cleaned up nice. I fire it up so my wife can :wink: .
It is a like new honda 4500 watt rig on wheels. When it was new in the 70's it was around $4,000, now I think you can get the same rig for maybe $1500. When we first got the cabin in '96, I attempted to start the generator since it hadn't been started for 16 years. Old gas and all. Anyway, I turned the key on and pulled, tried about 1/2 dozen times, couldn't get it to fire up. Then I realize I didn't have the fuel turned on. 2nd pull, she fired. Now it's a trick. Last time I went and used it, it had sat for 2 years. First pull, she fired and ran.

Oh... we have ac ouple generators laying around here somewhere.... Can't stand the things, if I ever build new we are going to get one of those propane ones like Kola but I will let the gas man hook it up to because me and explosive gases just is not a good idea right now...or ever..
Judith, sounds like you have been hanging out with my brother and some of the kids I went to school with... Why learn to change a tire when you can just call the tow truck eh? There are things I am still learning that I knew nothing about as a kid growing up and looks like ON Thursday I get to install a new coolant resevoir on a 275 HP diesel engine... Oh, that should be fun...

Mr Lilly gets up at 4 am to go to work every mornin. If he waited on me to bring him his clothes in the bathroom he'd be sittin there till sometime shortly after 7am. He sets his own alarm, turns it off by himself even......and most times goes to the dryer to get some article of clothes out of it....whether it's socks, jeans, or shirts....there's nearly always still somethin he's gonna wear in there. He does usually kiss me goodbye as he leaves the bedroom.......Probably "always" kisses me....I just don't know it some times LOL
