LOL No his name's not Waldo....it's one I just thought of yesterday....there usta be kids books that were called, "Can you find Waldo?" one lil skinny man in a croud and you had to try to find him.

We've had a light sprinkle....but lookin at radar it's almost gone now. So far not enuff to hurt anything.

Miss Lilly what part ot the south east are you around. Im new on the site it is great. Im from the Dayton area we have been getting rain everyday . the news paper said we got rain 41 out of 48 days maybe it will slow down a little. Last year it was to dry for hay. This year to wet lot of people around here have not cut. Good ol TEXAS WEATHER.

Flankman...welcome to the boards. I'm not quite as far south as you are, I'm just west of Huntsville a lil ways.
It's rainin as I type...but oh well......lil wet hay...it'll eventually dry maybe and we can get it rolled up. Won't be the first time. LOL
Daughter was headed out the door to go saddle up, when the first thunder was heard. I was headed out to tell her never mind as she was comin in to say never mind LOL
Usually this time of year ya don't wanna go out and do stuff cuz it's so hot....but with all this rain ya can't do much either :? But I aint gonna complain, cuz one of these days the sun will start shinin and we'll be so busy doin all the makeup work that's been put off.

Well....it's laid there in the field since Friday the 13th LOL been rained on numerous times. Today Mr Lilly decided to see if it was dry enuff to rake and bale. He got it raked...and baled 3 bales and it's still a lil to wet. Hopin we'll have a lil more sun tomorrow, and I can go flip the windrows over with the rake......then later in the evenin he can come along and bale it.
Here's three pictures that I took with my new cell phone. NOT GREAT QUALITY that's for sure....LOL but it kinda fits the quality of this hay now.

is that pensacola or argentine?surely looks like a good stand.shoot a little ammonia down the center of the bale and keep the mollasses full, they'llstay slick on it.

there are several types of bahai, down here the two i mentioned are the most common,it is not the most nutricious hay but is probably the most common in fla.the argentine is supposed to be better than pensacola but the pgrass can stand heat and drought better, therefore is more common in the native grass pastures.

Honestly I've never heard anyone around here mention a name...other than Bahiagrass. I'll hafta do some lookin and find out what variety it is.

I did find this info on Texas A&M Ag News website.

"Despite its bad rap, bahiagrass shouldn't be bashed unconditionally, and it as its place with other forages, he added.
Bahiagrass' biggest advantage is it will survive on sandy, acid, infertile soils.
This means, as fertilizer prices increase, bahiagrass becomes more attractive, Evers said.
"With little or no fertilizer, bahiagrass can be as productive as bermudagrass – unless moisture is limited," he said.
If high fertilizer prices are coupled with low cattle prices, many producers may feel forced to cut back on fertilizer applications. The resulting low fertility can damage hybrid bermudagrass stands.
"With bermudagrass, you've got to apply some fertilizer every year to maintain the stand," he said.
With bahiagrass, however, producers can go into a 'holding pattern' until cattle markets are strong again. Given moderate amounts of fertilizer, a bahiagrass stand will make a good recovery after such a hiatus."

From what I can find online it's Pensacola variety.

I'll bet yur just itchin to get into the hayfield...yur house has to be the cleanest in Texas if that's all you've been able to do lately with all that rain...if the sun ever comes out and shines..the grass will never stop growing and you'll be haying till Christmas!!! lol

LOL Jassy..go check the first page of this...I posted balin pics. But...it's only one field we've cut...we haven't got to cut our own hay (2nd cuttin) And it's sposta start rainin again tomorrow. But least we got this rolled up finally, and now it's stacked as of this afternoon.

Maybe greener colored equipment would help-like JD ?Probably not-so yu hay when sun shines anyways

LOL if we went n bought "Greener" equipment...I wouldn't be able to feed myself much less feed the cows. I'm sure it'd be nice to run newer equipment....but it's hard to beat......."paid for".

If the grass is any wet at all, it won't start the core of the bale. So ya wait another day, and pray, cross fingers, and toes and hope ya git one more day of sunshine so you can get it baled. That finally happened. Got finished rollin it yesterday, and moved today, with clouds rollin in lookin like rain ......

I even felt a drop here and there.

Here's a few more pictures...better quality photos...but the same quality hay.
