Glad it wasn't Micotil

Yesterday while running the head catch and giving one vaccination to each cow, I inadvertantly rammed the full length of a 3/4 inch needle into the muscle of my thumb. The shot I was giving was Alpha 7. Fortunately this happened with a clean needle, but I was loading more vaccine when it happened. It was a cool day, so I was wearing leather gloves, and the 16 guage needle went through the glove when it got me. This didn't bother too much for the rest of the day, and we got the cattle done in fine shape. This morning was a different story. The poor old thumb is all swelled up and hurts. I went to the doctor and got a tetanus shot and a flu shot while I was there, also some antiboitic pills (Cephalexin) to be taken four times per day for the next seven days.

The moral of the story is that if you are going to be dumb with your thumb, you've got to be tough. I'm just glad it wasn't Micotil, or I'd be saying my good-byes.

Getting ready to preg check the last bunch of cows. Out of 257, there were only eleven empties, so for this I was happy.

Sorry about your thumb, Soap. That's why we won't use Mycotil,
things out of your control happen when you work cattle.

Nice pictures, thanks. How tall is Brock? And he's still growing!!
Like those pictures of him with Peach Blossom.

Your cows look good. I can tell you how to get rid of that
red tint, if you like. Congratulations on a great breed-up.

You have the same flooring in your kitchen as we do!!!!!!!!

Typical Alpha 7 site. Well, except for that non-BQA location.

This year it seems to have been especially bad for reactions around here. So bad that after the branding shots, my wife said no more Alpha 7. And since I'm letting her think she's the boss, I used Pfizer stuff for the next two rounds.

I seem to poke myself good once a year. Never had the infection problems but don't think I have ever driven it in that far... I have never been so current on my IBR or Tetnus vaccines as I am now

The doc never gives me any antibiotics for my foolishness but again, most of mine tend to be in the finger tips and not very deep.. The two docs I use around here tend to be cautious on antibioitcs use for whatever reason..

A few years ago my brother-in-law jammed a needle of micotil into his thigh right up to the shank. He said he ran for the house to call the 800 number, not expecting to make it.
I don't remember the details, but basically they told him if he hadn't injected a certain amount he was probably all right. He still had the entire product in the syringe, and showed no ill effects, other than having the $hit scared out of him.

Hmmmm, guess I should read the labels. I've jabbed myself with a Micotil needle before and just kept on going. Didn't even realize it was bad news

And Soap, I feel for ya. I've had that needle down to bone thing a time or two. I seem to react immediately, so I end up finishing the day with one hand.

Hey I'm glad i thought of that one.

Actually I was going to ask Soap if the vet was only checking for the calves that were LEFT?
