Nice consistent group of pretty hiefers and nice bulls too. Hope they throw healthy calves for lots a years for ya. How many replacements do ya keep every year?

We have kept quite a few the past couple years, as we replaced all of our red cows which were sold last fall. Some of our black cows are getting quite a bit of age on them, and they will be replaced at weaning time this year. We keep more heifers than necessary, but some always fall by the wayside for some reason or another. We cull fairly rigidly.

Looks like your heifers wintered well. Any idea how they weigh up?

We weighed the ones that came home the first day, and they weighed 730 pounds. The ones that came home two days later wintered at another facility. They didn't get weighed, but just by looking, I think they were a little bit heavier. Possibly they were not much below 800 pounds. Last fall, the heifers were just gate cut to go to the two different facilities. My guess is it will probably be hard to pick out which ones wintered where by next calving season. I am real happy with both places, as they took good care of our heifers.
