Well, Christmas is coming up, and every year I like to get people books. Good books, none of that Harry Potsmoker stuff either, haha.

What good books has everyone read lately?
 
Wow,tough question.I'm reading four books right now,two rereads tuesdays with Morrie..Mitch Albom,and one of my all time favs. I Know This Much Is True...Walley Lamb

I've just started...for one more day...Mitch Albom,and a book I bought for my son last Xmas,he loved it...Born Fighting..James Webb.

Another one of my fav. ever books was Five people you'll meet in heaven...Mitch Albom

hmmm,seems like I really like Mitch Albom books.... :lol:

I also like anything John Grisham wrote,hes got a really humorous one called Skipping Christmas,easy read you'd like that one

Glad you brought up John Grisham! He is one of my favorites.... I agree that "Skipping Christmas" is a fun, easy, fast read of his....

You also can't go wrong with "A Painted House" if a country folk is on your list. My other favorite of his is "Street Lawyer".

I also liked "Tuesdays with Morrie".

James Harriot books are also books that most people like.... "All Things Bright and Beautiful", "All Things Wise and Wonderful", "The Lord God Made Them All", "All Creatures Great and Small", etc...

If you are buying for a country kid (junior high-high school) I reccommend "A Day No Pigs Would Die" by Robert Peck.

I read "A Day No Pigs Would Die" in 6th grade. and it is STILL one of my favorites. liked it so much that in my freshman year, I checked it out of the library in my buddies name so I could keep it! best gift the idiot ever gave me.....
perhaps I should get a library card in Kola's name.......
 
If real life adventure is your bag then "ENDURANCE Shackelton's Incredible Voyage" by Alfred Lansing is one that will leave your mouth agape. Unbelievable what humans can stand when they want to.

I read this book and watched the movie while I was at the Saskatchewan Youth Leadership and Conservsaion school, we watched the movie the first day and when I got back I checked the book out of the library. It really goes toi show, where there's a will, there's a way

Well...it's mostly non-fiction.....Gone With The Wind.. it can't be beat!!!
 
Gone With the Wind is my favorite book of all time and I've read 100's, seriously. But, I am looking for something strictly non fiction.

what perfect timing this posting has since I went to the school "book fair" the other day and bought the boys a "bunch" of books!!
ACS---here are a few you'd like that the boys just loved.....
"Danny's Dragon" by Janet Muirhead Hill (story about a ranchboy who loses his daddy in the Iraq war and has to come to grips with reality....better have the hankies ready, though, cause you WILL need them)
"Red Dog" by Bill Wallace (sort of along the line of Old Yeller)
"Worth" by A. LaFaye (story about an orphaned farm boy...another good one!!)

Angie----try out this one......... "My Name is America....The Journal of Rufus Rowe.....a witness to the battle of Fredericksburg"....bought this one for the 11 year old since he is such a history-buff!!
 
Thanks for the suggestions. Currently in class I am reading the notes I get passed. :lol:

My favorite book of all time would probably have to be the Yearling. I forget who writes it, but it is definitely hands down the best book ever written, IMHO.
