Good books

Just read the first two of a 3 book series by Russell Rowland. In Open Spaces and The Watershed Years. Have the third on hold at the Bookmobile. Really good, his writing is very similar to Ivan Doig. They take place in SE Montana starting in 1918. He has several others but I can only get one other one from the Bookmobile.

Anyone else read anything good lately?

True story of WWII Heroine Corrie Ten Bloom.
Jack reads a lot now........all westerns.
He read Stephanie Grace Whitsons 3 books, and loved them.
Valley of the Shadows
Heart of the Sandhills
Edge of the Wilderness.
I haven't read them yet.

Ivan Doig's Dancing At The Rascal Fair, English Creek, and Ride With Me, Mariah Montana. It is a trilogy about a Scottish immigrant coming to Montana anf following generations. The Heart of Everything That Is by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin, It is the life story of Red Cloud

Tough Trip Through Paradise by Andrew Garcia. True story of a man who went to the Musselshell in 1878 to trade with the Indians.

I will look him up,
Just looked and yes I have read The breaking of Ezra Riley. My aunt gave it to me many moons ago. I'll try some more.

I sincerely hope you do this. I have "The Oregon Desert" written and signed by both E. R. Jackman and R. A. Long. It belonged to my Aunt and was signed Sept 21, 1964. Has been quite awhile since I read it, but the history, the stories and the photos are great.

I have Cattle Country of Peter French by Giles French signed by the author it has copy write date 1964. I have no idea how we came to have it.

Also Ben Snipes Northwest Cattle King by Roscoe Sheller copy write date of !957. Also signed by the author. Also well below the signature is printed Tom. That was one of Edna's brothers. She says he worked at a book store for a time and may have stolen several books. He was that way most of his life.

Both are interesting books about very early cattlemen. Ben Snipes is a pretty amazing story.

Our daughter was married to Ken Doig, who was related to Ivan Doig.
Kenny was kicked in the head by a horse in 1988 which left him handicapped.
He couldn't talk after his brain injury, and his spelling was terrible!!! But his cognitive thinking was fine.
He wrote some short, rather autobiographial (is that a word?) stories of his days
as a cowboy in Montana. He had a great sense of humor that never failed him.
I might share some of them here. I think Older Whiskey had a great idea!!!

None of our lives were the same after Kenny's injury. It was caused from a blood
clot the size of an English muffin on his brain stem. He shouldn't have lived, but
he had the constitution of a tough cowboy. We loved him and will NEVER forget him. May he rest in peace.
