I posted here when we thought we would have to give Dixie away. We never could quite do it because we liked her so much. Today she passed muster as an "official cowdog."

We were working yearlings, giving a Vira-shield shot, new tags, etc. She worked the alley so well bringing the cattle up. Never made any noise, just did her job and did it well. We were very proud of her. She is about 18 months old now.

She is also our watchdog. She doesn't make much noise, just enough to let us know someone is around. I'm so glad we gave her more of a chance. She injured her leg jumping out of the tractor and we had that fixed, so maybe she is paying us back!

That is absolutely great!!!! I know having to give her away was really eating at you. I am glad that she worked great. I'm sure both you and her were feeling wonderful today!!!!

Maybe your cool Magoo cat talked some sense into her!!!

Thanks for the great news. I just love it when things work out for the better!

Cheers---

That is good news FH. I didn't put the training into my Jack dog that I had my old Toby as I wanted him not to be as intense on the cattle. It seems to have worked he does work with us but stays closer and not always going to balance. Hope Dixe has grown into her job and position on your place.

Thank you both for your replies.

Little Dixie is always with you, she really wants to be a cowdog. She could be tougher, but I think she is getting tougher as she gets older. She could be bigger too, but that's not going to change!!!

Our huge male dog doesn't care if he's in on the action or not. He is pretty mellow, just doesn't care. He can help if you remember to encourage him to come along. One 'get back' and you don't see him again.

Dixie is more like me. Has a good memory only it is very short. Tell her to'get back' and she flies back. But soon she returns...
