Good Sale

No it wasn't the JJH whoever that is and I just did the average in my head so shoot me in the guts if I'm wrong-I bet I'm pretty close. The neighbors had a successful day lets leave it at that. The Coretchy Boy's looked pretty good they went into some friends herds so I can sneak a peek at them-Commander Bond appeared to take some birthweight out of cattle-I'd hesitate to call him a heifer bull by any means but I don't think he'd add any weight at calving from that small sample. Ringstad Ranches and Merit bought the Lot 1 bull.

JJH is who bought the Old Post bull......

Where were you sitting Just Ranchin? Both those outfits cut their teeth in the commercial business for a long time before they ever bought a purebred. The high price paid could be a tax situation or maybe Stan just decided he really wanted that bull-he's bought several from them over the years.

Sitting next to Edwards. I was at least able to sit, that stockyards is too small one day of the year!

I can't get by the what if he breeds 25 cows, then stifles or breaks himself? To high for me. I'm trying to justify half that much :? .

I agree  . Maybe we should just fork over $900 and go lease one from Jorgensens :D .

How much you can afford to spend on bulls certainly depends on your particular situation, but the genetics that are brought it determine basically all the other needs of the operation. Research shows that genetics are the one area where the lowest cost operators are willing to spend the most money. To me, that says a lot. I have a good friend that attended a sale once where a guy who ran a commercial outfit bought 10 bulls, didn't pay less than $5,000 for any of them and went up to $10,000. That was over 10 years ago, what are they worth now? Still, being expensive doesn't make them good or the right one.

I was just gonna say that, although there is a reason that the high ones are that way. Good bulls are probably worth what they cost, but I'm not sure 10K is what we need to give to get a good one.

JJH didn,t buy Old Post the first time he bought him out of the commercial herd of the guy who bought the 10 grand bull the bull originally sold for not much money.

Very true!

Any one eyed person can pick out the best bull or bulls in any sale. It takes the real cattleman to find the best bulls for the money. Just because they are expensive doesn't mean they are that great, maybe two idiots fell in love witht the same critter.

NR. I thought that was the Stan from my neck of the woods! Good cattleman with an excellent set of cows and a good eye for bulls. I just about fell over when he told me the Old Post storey. Stan does not like the extreme creep fed fattys or the typical bull sale shennanigans and buys the bull he wants regardless of price.

This isn't the best picture, but I thought this bull was worth the $1800 we spent on him a few weeks ago :D . He has lots of calving ease and growth. Only time will tell.
