I was visiting with a good friend of mine last week. He told me about his elk hunting trip. He and his son had gone over on the Grand Mesa and hunted the country between Divide Creek and Owens Creek. As he told of the marvelous scenery, it was easy for me to picture the canyons and valleys. The pockets of black timber, and Quakie trees standing bare came easily to mind, because a college buddy that ranched over there and I have gathered cattle and hunted deer on East Divide Creek where the college buddy had a forest lease. He told of how they watched a snow storm approach from the Book Cliffs across the Colorado River and blanket the Grand Mesa with several inches of new snow. He told of how he had enjoyed evenings in the tent and around the campfire talking with his son. They had discussed hopes and dreams and made plans to bring some of them to reality. They had had a wonderful time. They had fished and hunted, seen elk, deer and a bear. They had not even got to shoot. They got "skunked". I ask you, was their trip a failure? They didn't think so. Their success had not been measured by the amount of meat they brought home or the big rack that wasn't there. Now, I ask you if life is a failure because we don't "bag the big one"? My old leather-bound book tells me that He will give us life, and life abundant. Then it also says that our life does not consist of the abundance of things. Hmmm--I wonder--maybe it's just living for Him that makes life abundant. You all have yourselves a good Sunday mornin and a good rest of the week. Have fun doin it!

Thank you Shortgrass. I greatly appreciate your message. It is very pertinent for this week, as either the deer seasons have just started here, or will start next weekend. There will be those who come home without meat or racks, but lots who will have lived.

I hope you too have a wonderful Sunday and weekend. Thank you very much for bringing these messages to us.

Cheers---

TTB

PS I'm glad you have your power back on!

Morning Shortgrass- Yep, I think that is one of the major problems in the world today- many have forgot the message you reminded us of-- in that search for an abundance of things at the cost of everything else.....

Great message this sunday mornin Shortgrass. Thanks so much for takin the time to post them.

There's so much more to be gained from friendships, fellowship, and time spent with family....it's the little things that really matter. To see your teenagers face light up...with a simple "I love you" and havin them return it, or an evenin spent doin things together n bein silly n gigglin the whole time. So many little things that don't cost a dime, that are worth their weight in gold to the mind body and spirit.

Thank you kindly, Shortgrass, for your nifty Sunday morning thoughts. Your story puts a lot of things into proper perspective. Just because cattle prices aren't the best this fall, doesn't mean the whole rest of the year wasn't worthwhile. We can't always "bag the big one" but happiness is the journey, not the destination. :-)

You folks are always thanking me, I reckon maybe I'd ought to be thanking you for your kind replies. I do recieve a lot of encouragement when I hear back from folks from south Texas all the way to Canada. If God has used me to encourage all of you a little, then He has used all of you to encourage me a lot! You just can't outgive the Lord can ya!

What a great reminder that life isn't 'what we have', it is 'who we are.'
Success in our country seems to be measured on the wrong things.
(He who has the most toys wins-NOT). Thanks for your great message
of sharing ourselves and our time with others and keeping the Lord utmost in our life.

I wondered how you were going to tie this all together. You have
an amazing talent. Thanks for sharing your wonderful messages
with us.
