Good Sunday Mornin on this Mother's Day in 2007. My mom passed away on Friday evening of this week. We don't want to sound uncaring, but I thank God for giving her to us. I thank God for taking her. Her last days have been very difficult. Mom was 93 + years old. As she lay on her death bed, she apologized to my sis for not having a bigger estate to leave us. Good ol' sis had just the perfect answer. She told mom that we considered our heritage to be of the very best sort. She had laid a foundation of faith in the Lord, work and integrity that neither of us would consider trading for any amount of money. The Proverbs tell us that a good name is to chosen over great riches. As mom weakened, we could see this coming. Now you understand the reflections of my maternal grandmother that I mentioned last week. I asked mom what words of wisdom she might have to pass on to another generation. Her reply was "love the Lord with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul, and love your neighbor too." After a brief pause, she added "don't wait until you're an old lady to do it either!" I wasn't at all surprised to hear that response. See, she put into a sentence what she had spent a lifetime showing us. It seems like I have seen that same advice emphasized somewhere in that old leather bound book that I read. Have yourselves a mighty fine Sunday mornin'; I certainly aim to.
