Last winter, when the cold winds howled, my cows loved to see me come. When the pick-up would enter the pasture, they came on the run to enjoy my company (perhaps it was the benefits –cake- that I had with me). What a difference a little green grass makes. Today, I drove out there, and the cows hardly noticed. Not one of them came to see me or enjoy my presence in their midst. That conduct is perfectly acceptable if you are a cow, but all too often that is the way we treat our Lord. When bitter winds of winter howl, we run to be with Him; as well we ought to. He will meet our needs and we rejoice with our Master. When the green grass is here, and our belly is full, we hardly notice His presence in our midst. That ought not so to be. The psalmist states that "He maketh me to lie down in green pastures." Green pastures are the best for gathering and prospering. Even under those conditions, or perhaps ESPECIALLY under those conditions, we need to lie down, chew the cud, and savor the presence of the Master, who has so richly provided for our needs. Of course that ol' cow does not really enjoy my presence, she is only after the benefits I have with me. We must examine our hearts to see if that example applies to our relationship with God. Hope each of you take time today and every day to enjoy our Lord and Savior. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin', and a good rest of the week.
