Being a rancher is not just an occupation; it is an identity. A rancher is just as much who we are as it is what job we hold. Last week I mentioned that we ought to be like Barnabas, the "son of encouragement." That is who he was more than what he did. I am going to spend the next few weeks looking at Barnabas. He wrote no books of the Bible, but was a great encouragement to Paul and Mark, thus having a big impact on our New Testament. You might make a list of characteristics of an encourager. Let's scratch the picture someone going around with a high five for everyone, saying "good job" or "I knew you could do it." The man's name was Joses, and Barnabas was his identity to the extent that the apostles knick-named him "son of encouragement." What characteristics did the man have? I notice that he placed people above possessions. Acts 4:36 tells us that " Joses, who was also names Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostle's feet." That is the first little insight of the character of an encourager. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin' and a good rest of the week too.

Shortgrass, thank you as always for the timely encouragement. Calving season will start soon for many here so I'm sure they can use all the encouragement they can get. Me, I don't start calving until the last week of April. So I can kick back and relax for a little while.... yet!

If other folks are like me they look forward to the coming of calving with a mix of apprehension about the weather and long hard hours of checking heifers. The reward is seeing those new babies up and getting their first breakfast from mama all on their own.

Back to encouragement in our spiritual life. Seems like we just got done celebrating the birth of our Savior at Christmas. In only 10 days Lent starts and we look forward to Him coming again at Easter. This year is really going fast!

May everyone have a good Sunday and rest of the week. And remember every Sunday is a little Easter.
