Farming and ranching is hard work. No one seems to argue that point. Work ethic is something that was instilled in me that has served me well. We see in 1 Corinthians 9:6 that Barnabas, the son of encouragement was willing to work. During the last 7 weeks, we have looked at what characteristics accompanied a good encourager. Lastly, we see that Barnabas worked hard. We must work at it, as it is lots deeper than a high five and telling someone "good job!" The last item to write on the list, for those of you that made one, is simply "work at it." The list of characteristics of a good encourager would look like this:

1. You must place people over possessions.
2. You personal welfare must be secondary to the welfare of others.
3. You must stand beside those who need you.
4. You must not show partiality between people.
5. You must have a purpose (encourage others in the Lord), and fulfill that purpose.
6. You must set a good example from which others may learn.
7. You must keep a good attitude in spite of personal problems.
8. You will fail, but you must always be willing to continue on.
9. You must work at it to make it happen

Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin' and a good rest of the week.

Thanks for the Sunday morning encouragement, Shortgrass! Like the example set by Barnabas, we need to not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. Of course that's easy to say, and tougher to do.

Points 1-9 remind me of The Greatest Commandment recorded in Luke 10:25-28 where the scribe asks Jesus: "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

When Jesus asks him how he reads the law, the scribe replies: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. Jesus replied to him, "You have answered correctly, do this and you will live."

Then the scribe pushes the issue of "who is my neighbor?" further and Jesus responds with the parable of the Good Samaritan in Lk 10:29-37.

How do we treat our "neighbors" every day both those physically around us, and our "online neighbors" here at ranchers.net? Especially those on here we don't feel too "neighborly" toward at times!

I hope everyone has a good Sunday and rest of the week. Perhaps more springlike weather can help all of us to follow the example of Barnabas, and be in a more "good neighborly" mood!

Thanks for the encouragement in all of your Good Sunday Mornin' messages, Shortgrass. I hope that we, in turn, can continue to pray for and encourage you and Jan in this time of trial that you are both enduring at the present time. May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

We thank all you folks for your cyber support(I just invented that term :D I think it means that you know us over the net, and you care and pray for us--If you invent something and arn't sure what it means :? is there much hope?). Jan had a bilateral masectomy on Tuesday, and the pathology report on Friday was that they had found no cancer on the left, but two of the three lymph nodes on the right had traces (6 cells) in them. It will indicate further treatment, but our oncologist is out of town next week, so we will confer with her on March 19. Not as good as we had hoped, but much better than it might have been. Thanks for your care & prayer.

:) Thank-you Shortgrass for your weekly thought...totally enjoyed the Barnabas "trail"...like I've said before Acts is one my fav journey in the Bible.

Prayers are out to you and the Mrs. for her very fast recovery :!:

Please know that you and your wife are in our thoughts and prayers. The good Lord allows us this amazing experience called life and with the joys and happiness comes some tought times too. But if we lean on the Lord and keep the faith, it sure helps us carry on with the journey. God bless you and yours Shortgrass. Thank you for the wonderful Sunday mornin' encouragement and word to live by! :D

Prayers for your wife, and yourself in this tough time as well. Thanks for the Sunday mornin messages. I don't always comment, but always try to read them, and always get a good message from them.

Thank you Shortgrass, like Lilly, I always read and enjoy your messages but don't always comment on them. Jan (and you) are always in my prayers. Hope her recovery goes well.
