I saw A doe Antelope about May 27, and thought perhaps a fawn next to her. I have never seen a fawn in May in this country. I remember thinking it was really too early for fawns, and sure enough, as I got closer it was the ears of another doe lying in a low spot. On June 2nd I saw the first fawn. Right on time; it is the first of June when they start, and they will be pretty well done in a couple of weeks. God runs the Bucks with the does year round, and does better than we can. I can manage my bulls, and use all kinds of devices and drugs to get my cattle to cycle and calf on a particular day, but at best I can get within a week or 10 days of the first calf. This year I got 92% of my calves in 34 days, and was feeling rather smug. The truth is that the Lord sent good early moisture and grass last spring that did far more to contribute to that success than all my "management" practices. Isn't our God amazing? His ways are a bit above our ways! Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin' and a good rest of the week too.

Thanks for the message, Shortgrass. When making my rounds I have seen several lone doe antelope lately and assumed they had a little one or two nearby. I give them space so not to disturb them.

In this area we are thankful that God has sent us great moisture this spring. It was looking pretty tough a month ago.

If I figured correctly I have had 10" of rain in 9 days at my place. There is a bit too much of a good thing in places for folks who live near major waterways.

Here the rain came just about perfectly and filled dams that have been dry or too boggy to be usable for almost 10 yrs.

I hope everyone who needs rain gets some. At this point I'd be willing to trade some rain for sunshine, and it's not often you would hear me say that!

Thanks, Shortgrass. It is nice just leaving God in charge because it sure takes a load of weight off of my shoulders. Besides, He does a lot better job anyway. Even though at times we mortals have trouble understanding His ways, there is always a reason for the way things happen. God alone knows the final outcome, but "the rest of the story" will eventually be revealed in His Master Plan. We just need to let go and let God, and keep ourselves tuned in to serving Him.

I would love to share some of that rain you guys have been hogging! We have had about .6" since a wet 2" of snow in early April. Right at home we are green at the base of the grass, but no growth. Still feeding. I have a couple of sections 18 miles west of here that is as brown as January. I guess it will rain when it is supposed to. I keep tellin' the Lord that it was supposed to a month ago! Two years ago it was 15 July when it finally rained, and we made real good grass and plenty of it. The wait is the hard part.
