The last of 32 evening guests just left. What a pleasure to sit around the dying embers of the fire with good friends & neighbors. I guess I'm a bit challenged in some ways, so I found myself thinking of those embers that were an old post just moments before. Once, many years ago, they were a stately Cedar tree offering protection from blizzards or scorching sun for some band of red men. When they were cut down, it would seem their usefulness was over, but that is not the case. They served in a fence line for who knows how long before they rotted off. Now for sure it would seem their usefulness was over. Nope we had a great fire and fellowship around it. The heat they put off was feeling ok by the time we finally gave it up. I will now haul the ashes off, and they will enrich the ground. So what lesson can we get from that? Ecclesiastes says there is a time for everything. From that I learn that life holds many seasons, and things will change (no exceptions). Our responsibility in life will be different, but none the less useful. Each use of the post caused some differences in the appearance of the tree, post or charcoal. We will likely appear to be different people as the seasons of our life change, but we will always have a purpose to serve Him who has made us and changed us. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin', and a good rest of the week too.

Thank you so much, Shortgrass. That was one of the best ever and totally profound. In fact, it made it seem O.K. to keep on living life even though the body starts to feel aches it never had before and many things are not as they once were. Value in life is constantly changing and is there to see if we look in the right place. I look forward to the day when we are made new without any defects!!!

Thanks again.

Thanks Shortgrass! Your message reminds us that nothing in this life is permanent.

If that old cedar tree could talk it could have probably told a lot of stories about the dry years it survived, and the good years that contributed to its size and strength. Then on to the next phase of its life as a fence post standing its ground against all the cattle that tested it. After that work was done the cedar provided warmth and light for you to enjoy the company of friends and neighbors.

We are like that tree, in that the Lord expects us to "bloom where we are planted" and do our best to serve Him in whatever capacity we are able.

Excellent, Shortgrass.....no matter the changes in this life, there is always a purpose to existence and one constant never changing Truth & HOPE....salvation & everlasting life through Jesus Christ.

Great story of how everything changes throughout life. Even an old cedar post. Thank you so much for your encouragement, your cheer and your smile. These Sunday mornin' mini devotionals may not seem like much, but they mean the world to us. You never sound like your preaching or getting after folks. You just share a story or life lesson with lots of love and hope and make all who read it better! :D Enjoy your day Shortgrass! Thanks for thinkin' of us!
