Our economy is rough, but I recall how the folks that grew up in the depression often state that they were financially poor as church mice but never knew it because everyone else was too. That was our "greatest generation." Let us learn.

Ecclesiastes 2:24 states "Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw was from the hand of God."

Does this mean there is nothing better in life than to throw a big, irresponsible party? I hardly think so. This encourages us to take pleasure in the things God has blessed us with, and don't give much thought to what we don't have. So many people waste so much time striving to get something that they can't keep anyway, and lose the simple pleasures that God has so freely bestowed upon us. Thank God for what ya have, and have some fun with it in the process and you will have a good Sunday mornin' and a great rest of the week too!

That was a great message, Shortgrass.
You out do yourself every week. Thanks.

My mother used to say this:
"It's far better to want what you have than to have what you want."

I do forget that sometimes. Thanks for the reminder.
And that everything we have is through the Grace of God.

Thanks, Shortgrass. We all need to count our blessings instead of our deficiencies. Even when we pray, the prayers could be more like thank-you notes instead of a Christmas wish list.

I always appreciate your efforts in getting our Sunday mornings started off right. You and Jan have a great week. :-)

Great message Shortgrass! Yes, God means for us to give thanks for and enjoy the earthly blessings He gives us, and to share them with others. We get off-track when we selfishly start pursuing wealth for its own sake and try to keep it all to ourselves.

Sirach 14:11-14 also gives good words to live by on the subject of wealth:

"My son, use freely whatever you have and enjoy it as best you can. Remember that death does not tarry, nor have you been told the grave's appointed time. Before you die, be good to your friend and give him a share in what you possess. Deprive not yourself of present good things, let no choice portion escape you."

This passage especially speaks to me since I lost a good friend and neighbor who passed away this past week. He died from complications of injuries he got in a vehicle rollover coming home from town. None of us do know the grave's appointed time, so we need to enjoy the simple pleasures of this life while we can.
