Good Sunday Mornin'

A heifer just calved. A nice little bull with lots of vigor was soon up and looking for a handle. Well, as is so often the case, the heifer wouldn't stand still. She just kept circling around and around. The little booger couldn't get to the business end to save his soul. This went on for 20 minutes, but finally persistence paid off, and the calf got his breakfast. The Lord tells us to be persistent in our praying. I do not think for a minute, that God just finally gets tired of us asking for something and just gives it to us to shut us up. Rather I think that he wants to teach us persistence, and increase our gratitude when the praying is finally rewarded. I can look around the sanctuary of our little country church and see many people that were on the prayer list a few yeas ago, and on there for a few years too. Do not tire in praying for the lost in your community, persistence pays, ya know. Ask that little white bull calf in the corral! Have your self a good Sunday mornin', and a great rest of the week too.

Thanks, Shortgrass.

The heifer I put in the barn at 12:30 (it's snowing and cold outside) has yet to settle down and get with the program. Soon natural forces will take over, and she won't be able to stop the progress of her calf even if she wants to.

It is always a miracle after a branding, when several hundred head of cows with their calves are put into a large corral; the cows are sorted away from their calves; the calves are processed with the help of lots of cowboys, horses, and organized confusion; and then the cows and calves all find each other again out in a big pasture. This was possible even before ear tags were invented, and cows were taught to read. :-)

God's miracles are always present, even in common every day matters.

Shortgrass, I seldom reply to these threads but I always read them. Thanks for taking the time to do this for us every week.

You have a very timely topic here, Shortgrass. I just returned from a weekend retreat with members of our sister churches. Much of the discussion was focused on ways to encourage and motivate the "lost" in our church community in a caring and non-judgemental fashion. Prayer is the best and most effective tool when reaching out to to others.

IMO, the retreat was very worthwhile time spent and some good ideas were presented. There were some great cooks who kept the 25 or so attendees fed and nourished well with 3 squares a day of good home cooking.

The event was held where I attended high school 30 years ago, so I was quite familar with most of the place. We also toured parts that were off limits when I was a student..

Not too much has changed since the place was built almost 50 years ago. The place has been meticulously maintained and cared for and it shows. Walking in it's like stepping back into 1962.

The facility will soon be remodeled with increased energy efficiency a top priority. A geothermal heating will be installed to replace the natural gas/fuel oil hot water heating system.

The men stayed on the second floor of the 4 story dormitory. The women stayed on the first floor. I was the first on the men's floor to take a shower this morning. As they had told us, the water must run about 10 minutes before hot water gets to the showers.

The shower/bath room on the 2nd floor where I stayed had 6 showers and 4 bathtubs available. The dorm room I stayed in had space for 6 beds. Some rooms had enough space for 8. This also included space for student personal belongings and desk space for doing homework.

At full capacity, each floor could have housed about 50 students. It's one place that still seems huge to me after all these years.
