As I look across the prairie to Pikes Peak in the distance, I gaze across the fruited plains to the purple mountain's majesty. It is the same view that inspired Katherine Lee Bates to pen America the Beautiful. Well, it is a view of the same thing. Her vantage point was from atop the mountain, and mine is from the foot of the mountain. One of these days our view of the same things we see now will appear quite differently. My view of life and the Lord has changed drastically over the last 40 years. Truly He is more precious than when I first believed. Maybe that means that I have actually grown in my faith. I'll just bet that when I see the view from the top of the mountain it will be beyond my capability to imagine (and my imaginer works pretty good)! Today, I can truly say and mean "Even so, Lord Jesus, come quickly." As a young man, I had so much that I wanted to experience; today it means little. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin'. And a good rest of the week too. Maybe this will be the week?

Thanks, Shortgrass. It is always inspiring to get on top of a pinnacle and survey the surrounding countryside. This is the reason mountain climbers aspire to ascend a tall peak, for no reason other than "because it is there." Our daughter has just returned from a mission trip to Mexico. She said it was so exciting flying into Mexico City looking down upon all the activity, and then getting on the ground to be a part of it.

The old head wrangler on the guest ranch where I worked gave this advice. He said when riding through the mountains, always look behind you to see what the terrain looks like. Otherwise when trying to find your way back, the scenery looks different going the other direction and it is easy to get lost. He also mentioned that if guests were riding with you for several days and had seen all the available trails, go the opposite direction on the same trails and they would think they were riding through a completely different area.

One thing about it, when we get on top of that last mountain with the Good Lord as our guide, we won't want to go back. :-)
