got cows home today

Decided to finally bring cows home today...i squeezed an extra month of cornstalk grazing out of them. Sure helped me out a lot. I was hoping to take pictures but ending up forgetting the camera. It was a pretty fun trail home. Cows just followed the tractor trail for about 4 miles. Its a good feeling to have them home and not worry about them away from the farm. Is anybody around here still grazing cornstalks?

Not any cornstalks around in our neck of the woods...but I can relate about having them home to keep an eye on em...

I didn't graze any cornstalks this year, I've got them out on dry grass. Last year was sure a banner year for grazing, though. I had them on corn stalks, milo stalks, alfalfa ground and volunteer wheat all the way until grass. I fed a total of 7 bales to 150 cows from March of '06 to December of '07. How wonderful is that?

All my cows are still in the hills. I take some canola meal and salt mixture and add mineral about once a week.

Just brought ours home this morning just as the sun was peeking over the horizon...About all we had to do was open the gate (and gather up a few that wanted to run thru the neighbors CRP field :roll: ) and they headed for home....Only had to trail them about 1/2 mile...

I have about a months grazing here at home- but I might start rolling out a bale or two of year old and 2 year old hay once in awhile to make it go longer- since it looks like our open winter now could last thru January...

Weather boys claim they see no impending weather pattern changes in the next 15-20 days.....Altho I think most of that is SWAG- Scientific Wild Arsed Guess that far out :wink: .........

Ours don't come home. They are in the breaks on grass year round. We haven't had to feen any protein yet either. Sure does save alot of money not having to feed.

Haymaker , north of Texas where most good cattlemen live when faced with a drought we usually reduce our numbers to match our forage available.
