Prices held, they were a little lower, but not a whole lot.

Junior, the red dogie we raised on a bottle from the time he was about a day old, weighed 310# and brought $131.00! Yee Haw!!!!

Al's crossbred steer weighed 600# and brought $105.00......YEE HAW!!!!!!!!!

Some of the "other" brother's, dad's, and boss' cattle were as follows:

Dale's oldest brother: 7 mixed steers, ave. 396#, $125.
1 red steer, 465#, $112.

Dale's younger brother: 1 Hereford bull, 2,015#, $55.75.

Dale's dad: 2 mixed heifers, ave 703#, $94.00.

Dale's dad's boss: 5 red heifers, ave 497#, $97.00.
6 red heifers, ave 544#, $95.05.
1 black heifer, 405#, $109.00.
1 red packer cow, 1,650#, $43.75.

One of the neighbors of my dad, sold a black packer cow, weighed 1,310#, brought $44.25.

Not bad, all in all. I can hardly wait to see what the Holstein steer we sent weighed. They had 2 Holstein bulls, that went for $54.75 (1900#) and $55.00 (2135#).........not great, but not too bad for dairy stock in a beef market.

Al's gonna be thrilled with his price.......his check will be $600.56, after they subtract yardage, commission, etc.

Just got the results from Lumpy's sale.......boy did we take a screwing on him!

The steer weighed 1,365 lbs and brought 0.34 a lb. for a total of $464.10. Let us know if you need anything else.
I guess you lost me Ranchy. Is this a fat steer that your son showed? What's the deal with the price? Did he look sick or something? Fat show steers here bring market price or a little more. Never mind. I see he was a stein. Some of those holstein steers ranchy can be pretty meatless unless they are fed pretty hard. What kind of flesh was he in?

Is there a reason you called him "lumpy"? Cheatgrass causes lump jaw (we call them "lumpy") on our cattle, if we take one in to the sale we always take a beating.

When he was a calf, he got a cactus in his jaw, and before we could get it healed up, the name had stuck. There really wasn't anything wrong with him that a few lancings didn't take care of.

Guess the reason I thought we took a screwing on him, is because we could have put him in our freezer...........but Dale wanted to get rid of him right now. Our butcher does a lot of game, and state law here says you can't have domestic meat in at the same time as game.....something about contamination. I didn't really understand it all when George told us.

He was a pretty fat almost 3 year old, huge!!!!!! He would have filled our freezer, and we could have shared with the rest of the kinfolks, too.

Just think that he could have been put to better use......just my opinion.

Am I reading those amounts right?

A 1300+ steer bringing only a bit over $400 and the other prices?

I don't deal much with stock barns & their prices but lordy that seems low!!

Yep, that's right. Got the check day before yesterday, and it's just a little over $800, after they deducted for their stuff.

Geeezzz....are prices that low everywhere?

Man, that's a whuppin' for sure for that many critters.

Kola, only the two were ours..........Al had one that's a brother to his heifer from last year........Dale's dad and 2 of his brothers and the guy his dad works for also had cattle in there. Sorry for the confusion........

Ok..makes better sense now!

It seems to me the price of cattle is going down, down, down. Yeasterday the little girl on this place sold her 585 steer with a neighbors (because he's the only white calf we have) and she got $1.16. Not the price that the other calves got that were sold over a month ago. But we are happy with it. She made a profit. Grandma and PaPa gave her the cow a couple years ago and we supply the pasture and feed so she made money. :D

$1.16 is just about what the high end of the sales at Deming were a couple of weeks ago. I haven't checked for stuff this week, mainly since we aren't sending anything. I heard the stock market took a major loss last week, and that may have something to do with the lower prices. I just don't know.

What I do know is that .34/# is not worth even sending one to town for. Especially when our freezer is just about empty (after the other one croaking and we lost a lot).........just kinda irritates me.

If we sell through the barn usually one of us is there if nothing more then to keep from giving the cattle away. :x
