On Friday at Agribition, winning was everything to one young man. Heifer was a little gant, some soda pop was in order.

Short time later the heifer is gasping for breath with mouth open. Does he think the show must go one. Yup but trys to keep the heifer's mouth shut.

Alas he brings her back to her stall with out being shown, but she didn't make it.

Barn is quarentined till autopsy is done. Got to love showning cattle.

The heifer was pumped with pop and drowned but the person isn't dismissed from the show and goes on to when the bull show the next day. I'm told more than one person was a little unhappy.

Seems the embarrasment would be enough to teach the exhibitor a lesson. Dragging a dead one out of the show barn could not be a fun thing. Talk about a deal-breaker. Then, the non-agrigultural public will jump all over this one and give "farmers and ranchers" another black eye for this behavior. Truly an example of what we should not be doing with animals in our care, unless it were for the health benefit of the heifer. Not the case this time and hit the wrong hole to boot.

My daughter was there working for a hereford breeder and she was telling me about it on the ride home from the airport. It happened in the Charolais show, I don't know the exhibitor.

Oh well I won't be buying a Charolais anyway.

Wonder what kind a pop ?

Cream Soda? :D

A old fellow that worked for us for years always said it made him bloat.

It helps get them filled out, more guts, more spring of rib. Never done it but seen it done some. Gets used a lot on calves that don't eat or drink well at shows to help fill them out. It's one of those gray areas, matters how the rules read if your actually breaking them.

Just got over to Agribition on saturday, and I'm ashamed to admit I never got over to the Swamp. Does it still have some atmosphere? It appeared to me that the powers to be were trying to kill it the last number of years..........Oh the stories........

8 - 2L Sprite (4 gallons). Apparently the barn was quarantined since they were not sure why she died. Penalty could include 6 months and $10,000 in fines...

Some of guys in our club get an unfair advantage by bringing a pail of water from home lol. Nothing good going to come of this deal for sure-unless it gives some people pause to reasess some priorities.

I suspect for many, the pail of water for home is more for concern over the animal that the burning desire to win. Caring for animals is quite a responsibility that should not be taken lightly...
