grass and brush pasture pics

Just thought I'd share a few pics of our pasture land. Good burns are essential for maintenance, and some years are harder to achieve than others.

recent burn:

last years burn. One more good fire and it should be cleaned out good.

older burn, good grazing and good shade.

This hillside (in the distance) has been burnt well for many years:

Creek bottoms are a good scource of easy pasture, plenty of water.

Moving some die hard tame grass grazers off a high pasture who's grass has run out.

Looks like the burning does a lot of good in your country. Around here, often a "controlled burn" gets away from the powers that be. Then the fires turn big and destructive.

Burning permits are getting harder to get (the powers that be think there's more money in trees than cows), they are supposed to be 'controlled' burns too. Often times they get all excited and put them out. But like Grampa allways said, "the best burns are the ones that really scare the he!! out of you"

I'm taking the family down to the coast in the next few days myself to see the wife's folks. It's a nice trip, and the coast is nice. Too bad for all the 'nuts' down there though. :wink:

I had one I left 2 years ago it was still going strong the next morning at 9:30 got in a hurry to put it out then as the wind was coming up and the DNR would frown at the whole deal :roll: :roll: :wink:

The Black Hills is getting such an infestation of Pine Beetles and dead trees, maybe this is how mother nature will finally take care of it.
