Growth inhibitor

Has anyone used growth inhibitors in seed crop production? I am interested in fescue seed production primarily but rye or oats would be similiar I guess? What are the results ?

Never heard of growth inhibitors for seed crop production? What would the advantages be?

I've heard of growth inhibitors being used on lawns, but thats about it.

You can use growth inhibitors to keep the upright crop from lodging or laying down . When fescue goes down the fodder grows up in the seed heads and you loose the crop. If you fertilize alot it always goes down. I wan't to be able to fertilize alot and keep the straw upright with growth inhibitors. According to the propaganda, seed heads aren't affected negativly.

My only experience with growth inhibitors was so long ago that I can't remeber many details. But what I do recall is that the company for whom I was growing seed wheat was quite happy to encourage us as growers to use the stuff, mainly because it was another input that they could sell us! However, since it was their seed stock that was a risk, I can't imagine that it could have been harmful to the seed viability, or they would have been liable for something that they had recommended.

Since then, the wheat varieties have been selected for better standibility and straw stiffeners have become a thing of the past, to my knowledge.

Maple leaf Angus or anyone else...it is getting time I gave this some more serious thought. Has anyone got a chemical name of a growth inhibitor that can be used on fescue? I have a field that is set up to make lots of seed but if I fertilize it to do so it lodges...
