You getting any rain? Our weatherman keeps talking about monsoonal moisture hitting Utah and Colorado? Sure hope so. Looks like Wy rancher is getting rain.

I'm not H or Shortgrass, but since you mentioned Wyoming, our daughter called and it was raining there this morning. (She lives in Wyoming, east of Gillette.) Not a real heavy rain, but nice, she said.
We haven't had any rain for a couple of weeks now. The country still looks good, but when would ranchers not appreciate a good rain in the summer?
We have had over 17" at the ranch; less in Baker, which is unusual.

How about you, Nicky? Is it raining there?

It's been few and far between here. We got a nice shower monday evening that dropped .25. We see the thunderhead build but wherever they are dropping moisture, it hasnt been here. From what i've heard it's over east of us a hundred and fifty miles. Hope Shortgrass is floating along on an innertube drinking an ice cold pepsi. :D

I live between Shortgrass and Leanin H.

We've been getting rain showers most every afternoon. We might go two days without, just not quite long enough to make hay. Not going to complain, however.

.

Talking of getting rain- that may be the reason we haven't heard anything from Haymaker- he may have flooded out... My sister lives in that area of Texas- and last week they picked up 6 inches in one day.... All their "tanks" that were dry are plumb full....

Pretty spotty. Some rain around. It hit the Springs today I guess, but we drew a goose egg. Our winter pastures are in worse shape than when we pulled off. Our summer pastures are getting by, for which I thank God.

You asked the wrong Utahn. H lives where it is hotter than hell 8) . As for gods country today is the first day that we have not received any moisture in the month of July . It has been a life saver someone said the other day that we have got almost three inches of rain this month in our area. I will take some pictures of a field I just cut to today and how the grass was tipped over and starting.g to rot. I just looked at it as a good problem to have. I do hope that we are not done though because we where one Pepsi can away from a major fire

keeps promising here.... 60% chance here today,,but that depends on which side of the road you live on.... had a couple of decent ones early in the month but just teasing now.

None here, just HOT. We're definately ready for some since all our hay is baled til second cutting. Neighbors might not agree tho.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words:

The grass

The prairie

The ponds

The trees

When the grass is tall and cattle fat, we say "Praise the Lord for his great blessing" and well we ought to. I now must say "this, too, is from the hand of the Lord." The time for our pastures to recover is getting short, but the arm of the Lord is not short! I am reminded that the grass withers, and the flower fades. We must hope in the Lord, and not in the rain. End of sermon  .

It actually wasn't a sermon, just a reflection on how I am trying to deal with it. It is the worst I have seen it in 67 summers. If the pastures don't turn real soon, I guess I'll try wintering without cattle to feed. Who know, maybe I'll like it. I am trusting in one who sees the big picture.

Those pictures tell it all Shortgrass. That is utterly devastating, and my heart goes out to all those enduring those conditions.
Sure wish I could send you the rain we are receiving right now.

Boy, yeah! If we could just make a plane with a bulldozer blade, and shove those clouds around  !
I love it when the weatherman says "after Tuesday, we will dry out :? .

What part of eastern colorado you at shortgrass? I took a trip to Lamar about a month ago and it was so sad. Those pictures look like what I saw in places.

I stopped listing to the news for weather, I loveit when they complain about all the rain then two days later complain about the heat and wish for rain. What's sad is there is hardly any mention of the conditions you guys are going through on the news.

I am so sorry you haven't had any relief Shortgrass. Like Nicky said, we have lucked out and gotten some rain, but so many others haven't. Our neighbors not 8 miles north of us have had no grass growth this summer, no hay, and are planning on hauling water to their cattle soon. In June I took a trip to Jackson, and the whole way looked absolutely terrible. A few weeks ago I was in Wheatland, and that country looked terrible as well. It is disheartening to see how horrible the country looks, and know how many people are struggling. We will put hay up here, but still need to buy some. I am scared to price it. What is hay going for in other areas?

In Ga....from last June to this past June....8 FEET of rain. Prob if you add in July, we're over 9 by now

Just about 45 mintues ago, one clap of thunder and 2.5" rain fell in about 20 minutes.

And that happens EVERY DAMN DAY!!!

I think here hay will be between $75-$125/ton depending on what it is.
We will have hay for sale if anyone is interested. I'm sure you will be able to get some closer to home, Wyoming Rancher, but there might be someone interested in knowing we have some for sale. We sure wouldn't hold anyone up either. We get our hay tested so we know what it is protein wise, etc.

Here's hoping for rain for everyone who needs it!

Those pictures are amazing and not in a good way. :? I am putting all the words i can into my prayers and i know the rains will come for you Shortgrass. Keep the faith friend. We are pulling for you. Wish i could do more.

Hay out here starts at $175 and goes crazy up from there. Horse people are paying $250+ but we all know they are goofy. :D I gave $175 for grass/alfalfa mix in small bales in the field and i hauled them. Cow hay of any type, i.e. rained on alfalfa or oats/tri-blend is still closer to 200 than not. My hope is i can stay out on leased pasture til the first of the year. But i am hoping for a good winter which we really need but may bring the cows home sooner. Danged if you do and danged if you dont. :?

We just returned from county fair, and it rained probably 2 inches at Calhan, and 10 mi south, we had .2 on the north side, and .1 on the south! At home, we are 25 miles SE of there, and it looked like it blowed pretty good :???: . I am glad to see it rain around. Spots look good. Fair alfalfa laid in here is about $260.
