Hail storm and heavy rain

Some of the hay we had cut was dry so we were baling it up and the it hit, hail up to the size of quarters and over an inch of rain in less than 10 minutes. We will have to access the damage after it stops raining.

Too bad MR,we've been getting some strange weather, haven't had a damaging hail yet but we have had pea sized hail. And the blackest clouds I've ever seen :???:

WE ve had 4 inches in around an hour. And it has been poring off and on since then. We lost a 1/4 section of barley completely to hail.

I was at Fort Peck Lake this afternoon at a wedding rehearsal for a wedding I'm performing tomorrow evening...Just got done with the rehearsal (outside wedding- overlooking the Lake) and it started pouring- poured for about 10 minutes and was gone...

When I got home- about 15 miles, we had received none- then about 8PM we had a little storm come thru and rain and blow for about 5 minutes--temp went from 80 to 60 in a few minutes so someone got hail....

Guess we don't have enough hay down yet to warrant a real rain..

This may be the year that everyone watches the skies-- When wheat is $2.00 bushel, you're not losing as much in a hailstorm- but they are talking $6+ wheat for this fall now.....

In my travels the last couple days, I have seen some beautiful looking wheat fields out there just starting to head out and fill-- could definitely use some moisture about now- but it doesn't look too promising...Weather boys are predicting 2 weeks of hot (around 90), sunny, and dry....Good haying weather...

Good haying weather for you guys that have hay.

We are just about done haying. It is starting to dry out and with
the cost of fuel, it doesn't pencil out to cut it when it goes less
than half ton per acre. Most of ours is crested wheat and it
has pollenated already. This hot weather will finish it off.

We usually get a good rain before the fourth of July. Hope that
holds true this year. The wheat farmers around here really need
some rain on their wheat. I hope they get it.

We got about 40 acres of hay down- should get into full swing this week... I may have less to do in the field this year- usually I do the swathing and the stacking- but my partner says that his 16 year old son has ran up too big a gas bill and is going to be paying it off by doing a lot of the swathing :) Good-- there is an auction sale I wanted to go to on Tuesday.....

Hope you had hail insurance?

Not sure but I dont think so because the policy was still in the mail and hadnt been picked up by the company yet... :(

If it was in the mail, MR, I would say you are safe.

Well, others would be safe, but with your luck, you might have to
stand on them. The postmark should help you out.

That is a real mess. Sure sorry you had this happen. We could
have shared with you, we can't get a rain for anything.

Why are those feedlot steers so crowded around that feeder?
Do they need more space?

FH,

They were crowded around there becasue we had just put a fresh batch of barley in there. Theres lots of room for them to eat. The feeder holds 600 bushel and is 14ft long.

Cowsense,

Trouble is a lot of it is under water. The stuff that is jsut beaten down bad Im sure will come back better than ever but will be late. Bright side we will have lots of green feed this fall..... :)

WE self feed corn to some after building them up but we also have ours in a pasture so they eat some grass and than hit the feeder a couple times a day.. That is a big feeder. Our 16 foot self feeder/creep feeders are only 350 bushel ones... Good for taking your open cows up a few BCS scores or finish off some steers without having to hand feed them.

The feeder works great!! With quite a few steers in there eating it keeps me going grinding for them. We add 32% R388 Rumension in with the grain to help with weight gains. The steers in there right now are averaging 4+ lbs per day.
