Wish OLN was showing this in the U'S-it really covers wagon racing well. Last night they showed an old 'Canadian Derby' winner that they were outriding on-the outrider reunited the horse and his jockey from 17 years before. The jockey walked up beside the horse and the horse recognized him-stuck his tongue out to be rubbed-the wagon guyys had never seen him do that before lol.

Darn worked last night and missed it...is it the new season? My best friend is Chad Hardens cousin and she said Chads one of the main focuses this year. Your right too bad US doesn't get it its one great show!!

horses are amazing animals aren't they

That show was a repeat from last season. Its a good show sometimes but other times its just about drinking and acting stupid. That anouncer is kind of annoying with all the "cowboy tough" crap
I just wish they would focus more on the sport and what goes into it instead of all the silly stuff they sometimes focus on.
I really like the chucks. I cant understand why its not more popular down south?
Have any of you Americans on here ever gone to a chuckwagon race?

Yeah the CPCA used to run at Cheyenne but haven't for a few years-they did have a show in Las Vegas 3 or 4 years ago. I think they had trouble putting up enough money for it to be worth their while to go there. I think that show potrays exactly how wagon guys are-normal people who blow off steam after work. As for wagon boys being tough I garantee if you try and steal their lunch you won't get a sandwich. In the old days before driver testing it used to be really crazy a little too much 'bottled courage'. Wagon racing is huge in my neck of the woods-nothing more fun than sitting around the camp listening to those guys tell stories-they have some good ones.

Hey Northern I was just thinking. Im confusing the annoucer on Half Mile of Hell with that other show Dirt Riders. That annoucer on Dirt Riders is really annoying. Plus they play all that bumber music on dirt riders.
No i didnt mean to sound like I was putting the show down. I just wish they did more on the training aspect of wagon horses.

Katrina
Did you like it?

They lost an outrider in Cheyenne too I'm trying to think of his name now.I think the wagon guys enjoy looking and starting young horses almost as much as racing. We've used our Belgians to get some through their first couple hooks.

Just heard today "Stormin Norman" ran his last race yesterday :( Always enjoyed watching him drive!Heres to Norm :drink:

I read somewhere in a local paper that "Smokin' Norm" is quitting because he is approaching age 50 this year and "I didnt want to go out with somebody telling me I have to retire because of my age. I wanted to go out on top," he said. "I thought this would be the time to do it instead of getting over the hill." The article also went on to say how him and his wife are now getting more into the training and raising of thoroughbreds. At least we will be able to see him at the Calgary Stampede next year. Maybe Half Mile of Hell will let fans know more as to why he is quitting. I guess we have to wait then for the new season.

Gerry Bremner the Nolin boys and Tiger Williams are putting on a fund raiser in the little town of Rapid View today to raise money fro the rec. center-Tiger is a cool guy I had coffeee with him before the Top Prospects game a few years back. He's a good old prairie tough guy who loves to hunt. I can't make it to this deal because of 4H committments but it will be a good time.

I think that it is cool when people like Tiger, Shane and Vern Nolin and Jerry Bremner give back to a community by having events like that.

Speaking of Half mile of hell....when does the new season start? Should be soon huh.My best friend is cousin to Chad Harden and she said hes one of the feature guys this year.

I believe that it is in Decemeber after the NFR... It is weird that they arent showing it earlier, but i think they want more people to anticipate the new season.

That is very true that they do add life to the horses. Half of them would probably be on the European Tour if it werent for wagons. I worked for a driver this past summer and most of the driving horses wouldnt be able to be ridden because they have their various problems, but they make good driving horses. Also one of the horses that my boss's family used was 22 years old. I mean you dont see that old of a horse running at the race track, so I too agree with Mr. Sutherland that it does add life to these geldings.
