Half mile of hell

What an awesome show-our local boy Kris Flanagan was having a bit of trouble but he'll work it all out. That was quite a wreck-amazing he wasn't hurt. I think Rick Sinclair was probably lucky that squirrely outrider spit the bit on him.

We broke some wagon horses a few years back-we hooked them with my old chore team-after a few episodes they were starting alot harder than I liked. Got the itch after watching to get some startyed for Ty to rubber tired wagon race at the Metis rodeo-one guy drives-one is the whipper lol.

You know when I saw tht I was thinking I needed to get a sliegh :) They only problem is we dont get enough snow to make it worth it.

Hey about all the auctions on the show.
So these tarp auctions happen several times a year?? For some reason I was thinking they only had one tarp auction for the whole year? Or where some of those auctions for other things?

Think of the money it would take to get into waon racing! Remudas of over 75 horses. Look at what that one guy paid for that dapple grey that was lame<$250,000?> All the gear, transport, facilities, etc! Sure isnt a poor man sport :(

Well there's alot of poor men involved in it-you don't start out wagon racing like those guys on TV-most are outriders first-then get some used up outriding horses to drive. Most of those guys are 3rd and 4th generation into wagon racing-it's at best a break even deal for ninety percent of them but it's impossible to get out of their blood. I know alot of those guys not many I'd consider rich-he didn't pay 250,000 that horse had won 250,000 on the track-I have a sneaky suspicion he got it bought because it can't take hauling very well. The best part I thought was Rio King talking Kris around the barrels on his first ride-you had to feel for the young guy.

Yes that was cool Reo doing that, really impressed me...but then so did Kris,I felt hes got a decent future as an outrider because his heart seemed to be in it.

Roper we do have enough snow now to have a sliegh ride like Chads, looked like a blast.

Haha Well I guess what one guy might consider rich another guy might consider average.
 From watching previous episodes of half mile of hell I was under the impression that the outriders must be rich to be able to afford to drink that much? Seemed wierd watching the show on the weekend and nobody was drinking for once.
So whats the deal on all the auctions?

The bigger shows have a tarp auction which gives the winning bidder the right to advertise on the wagon tarp-the driver has to pay a pretty good commission to the wagon meet committee and gets to keep the rest for himself-now if your talking rich I'd say horse trainers are light years ahead of wagon guys  Even the pony wagon guys will try and get tarp sponsors sometimes they get $100 a weekend or so sometimes more. I always told my neighborI'd buy his because it was on the track the longest-I'd get more exposure that way. Tons less booze in wagon racing then there used to be-I haven't seen anybody fall out orf a wagon drunk for years lol. Some of the outriders like to let their hair down when the works all done-no differant than young guys in any sport.

I get a big kick out of those minature pony wagon races. They try so hard! Those little legs are going so fast that they are just a blur! But yet they are hardly getting anywhere
