Big Muddy rancher said:After eliminating grazing in the Grasslands National Park that the Sage Grouse left and we living on the land grazed by cows. The park finally woke up and had the ranch let the fence down so he=is cows could graze some park land and make it more hospitable for the Sage Grouse. The chicks eat the bugs found around cow manure.
yep... wildlife that live in herds and flocks like to be with other species of herds and flocks because of more eyeballs to watch out for predators... self-preservation by ''safety in numbers'' .... plus, many other symbiotic reasons related to food source enhancement, insects, etc....Amazing how that works, isn't it? Years ago the Bozeman Chronicle (Bozeman, Mt) ran a story on how cattle grazing on the
forest affected the wildlife (namely Elk). When they studied it, they found the ELK preferred grazing behind the cattle. I don't know how long it took some journalist to figure that out. It was surprising because that area (Bozeman and Gallatain County in Mt.) has become home to greenies. Ranchers are outnumbered there, as they are in many desirable areas of the west.
