It's that time of the month when we start headin critters west to summer pastures...We'll take them to several different pastures before they actually get to summer grazing land by June 1st. This morning we started out with the 1st calf heifers and babies...down the road is the easy part..since there's fence on both sides...tomorrow will be a little different when they actually get to the first wide open pasture...lol Things went pretty smooth, which is a good thing..other than the wind was a tad chilly this morning....course I had the tuff job of leading the herd with the caketruck...(and a good heater)..lol

You have a lot of sound logic Jerry H, and I almost always agree with you. :-)

Neat pictures Jassy. Keep us updated on your other cattle drives this year.

Curious as to how far west you actually go. How many days do they graze before you rotate into the next pastures?
Thanks for the pics BTW.

We lease govt' ground on the McKelvie Forest, and we can't go onto that land till June 1st. In the meantime, it's 18 miles from the home ranch to McKelvie. We have 4 pastures that we'll slowly work the critters through, till the day we get to the Snake River then it's an all day affair crossing that and getting to the pastures. We do this in 2 groups...Heifers first, then the main herd second. So for the next 2 weeks or so we just keep pushing them west...clear as mud?????lol

The heifers moved great today, it was a cool morning with not much wind, and since the trail we took wasn't made for a pickup,,,I got to ride hubby's horse Rio....got along great with him...I think he likes me better..lol I didn't take my camera just for the fact that in case we had some breakaways, I didn't want to have to worry about it...Next time though..lol
