Or if you want to get a mouthful of true beef flavor and quality a person could spend those hard-earned dollars here: http://www.certifiedangusbeef.com/

Not cheap in either spot, but we don't really want to see cheap beef do we?

Just had to respond to that grass-fed promotion, FH. I'm not into starting that whole argument again. Just getting your goat!

As long as it didn't eat stink weed or corn it will be just fine

Have any of you that have such disdain for grass-fed beef ever tried it? I don't mean some old range cow that your neighbor had processed, I mean actual grass-finished beef from Tallgrass Beef, Thousand Hills, etc.? Surely you have. Surely you're not just assuming that it's no good? Just curious.

Movin on lots of folks knock stuff just to fit in. Then theres the crowd that grand/dad would have never aproved so they wouldnt try it or admit it if they did try it and it was better because grand/dad fed corn.

Kind of like politics people dont see the canidate they see the party and they are hell bent on going against the party no matter who is best.

Well, I'm not out to pick fights or pick on anyone's beef production methods. I was just having a little fun with Faster Horses and putting in the good word for my favorite kind of beef.

Since you've asked the question specifically, yes, I have eaten the beef from one of the two companies that you mentioned. I'll just say that it was good for me to give it a try. That's it. :D

Hope those folks have a good run with selling the stuff. All the best to them.

And yes I have also. A grass fed Guru gave me some to try and it was'nt near what he said it was as far as my taste buds. I grew up very poor and all we ever ate was Venison so I have a great distaste for venison and the grass fed beef gave me nearly the same taste. My biggest problem with grassfed beef is the constant bashing of grain fed beef to make one's self look better. If it's so good it should sell itself without the constant down gradeing of conventional grain fed cattle. When I harvest a deer I have every bit of it made into polish sausage and weiners.Kinda like lamb tried it was'nt impressed but am willing to give it a try again if someone actually knew how to cook it proper.

And I was just Ribbing Faster Horses I could careless one way or the other how or what some else eats.I've tried alot of other stuff and the worst I have ever had was Sushi it basically ruined my whole evening as I kept belching it up.

Denny you make a good point. If a product is good and is of value to the consumer it should not require negative advertising to be successful.

Just talk about the product and it's benefits.

Exactly when someone ask's me about certain trailers on the market I don't get into bashing them. I have'nt looked at them close enough to give an assessment. If they bring one here and have me look it over I'm sure there's things I'd change but also things I'll see and use on my own.

This site has gotten a little thin skinned if you ask me but thats another topic.

Sounds like the right approach to me.

My biggest concern with the grass fed livestock is its efficiency. Was recently working with some guys and they had a slide show of how much food we will need by 2050 to feed the world. I probably won't be here by then, but hopefully my kids will be. If the population growth continues as is, we will need twice as much food produced than today. I just don't see how grass finished products can compete. Currently I think it is a great niche market and glad someone can produce beef some other way which makes a different consumer happy and has him/her eating beef. But then again, if our country keeps up at this pace, we all might be eating rice in a few years anyway.

You think it is sustainable to pump feedlot animals full of antibiotics & grain?

To get everyone fed, yes. Besides, feedlot antibiotics are used on a sick animal, to make them healthy again. Grass fed cattle get antibiotics as well, just like you do when you are sick. Grass fed is not the same as natural or organic. Those are other niche markets.

Grain was put on the earth by God to be eaten by both people and animals. Their has never been anything proven to be unhealthy about eating a grain fed animal. Even if their was a slight chance of getting sick 50 years down the road, I would rather that, than have an empty stomach today.

I am not trying to start a fight, just giving some of my opinions.

Many people seem to over look the fact that there are millions of acres that aren't capable of growing grain, but grow grass quite nicely. I think if people can take advantage of that then more power to them. Should be good for everyone.

I think we are missing te big picture here. I am currently work with my county to provide grass fed beef for the public to buy. I personally like my beef to have all the grain they can eat before I eat them but some people don't and that is where I come into the picture to capitalize on this trend. I am making more money off of grass fed beef than I would be by feeding the animal for 60 days in a feed lot. We as cattle growers need to take advantage of what the public wants just look at how many of us went out and bought angus cattle when the fade for angus beef was in high gear. The way I look at it there is no difference.

Golly, I didn't mean to upset anyone. I just thought there were enough
people here that were into the grass-fed thing that I'd post that information.

Thanks for the CAB info. CHB info to add, anyone???

Laura's Lean?

:D

We all know what you were up to FH!!!!!!!!

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with someone promoting their product by way of showing the differences between one and another. To some, this may appear as bashing. Some people prefer the taste of the grain fed beef and could care less about fat content and any other of it's attributes.
The grass fed market is just tending to that niche that want something different.

Thanks for the post!

I like beef in all forms-I don't think portraying feedlot beef as unhealthy is right but I like the conditions grass fed is raised under better for sure. We usually eat a dry two year old for ourselves off grass.
