It's unusually green here for the first of October. Last year this time we were hauling water. It has made it tough putting up hay (we have second cutting getting wet right now) but the pastures have done great. We moved our heifer herd this morning to fresh grass. Though it was chilly and raining, it is just about our favorite thing to do! We talked to the owner of one of our leases about feeding our calves in his small lot after weaning, but the prices for feed he'd have to charge us doesn't pencil out, at all! We want to get them to heavier weights, which means keeping them and feeding them all winter. With the price of corn, we're really not sure what to do. Plenty to think about. :???:

Nice pics...hope everything works out with your calves...with the price of feeder cattle I'm not sure you can afford to keep them right now. What part of Ohio are you from?

We're in southeast Ohio. The rain has kept everything nice and green all summer. Made it hard at times to put up hay, but we are so thankful for the rain! We're still working at second cutting, been getting alot done this week as the weather's been great. Guess we may send some of our larger feeders if the price stays up. Thanks for the comments, sorry I didn't answer them sooner!
