Glad you found her Haymaker. Why did you turn her out in the first place?

Because she was just a few hours away from calving, figgered I would let her have a place to nest up and just check her every now and then make sure she was coming along OK,I figgered I could check on her in the pasture as easy as in a pen, being in brush and feeling like they are hidden has a calming effect on cattle, makes calving easier, problem was she had that calve sooner than I thought and lit out,I figger she got in a dry creek bed and worked the swinging water gaps to the next pasture, that ole girl knew that water and hiding place was up on that ridge...............good luck

Well I'd put as many miles and pastures away from you too if you'd have been stitching on my rear end

LOL OT, that was funny....I should take a picture of one 20 acre pasture I have, there's brush. Good thing they come in to the corral area when feed gets low, I'd never get them out,

In your area would it be cost effective to bring in a dozer and clear the ground for more grass??? With the brush I see in the pictures we could clear about an acre an hour. Leave the piles for a year and then burn them right after a good rain so nothing spreads. Keep the dozer pushing the pile as it burns so there is almost nothing left.

I have to go shopping for a new dozer tomorrow as mine burnt beyond repair yesterday - - - I think a fuel line must have sprung a leak as there was 3 feet of flames coming out of every opening in the engine compartment and it got so hot it melted the aluminum intake manifold. I'm sure the insurance will total it.

We were putting in a motorcross race track and just got done and the operator was driving the dozer back to load on the trailer when he heard what he thought was a gunshot under the hood and flames and smoke started erupting. He called me and ask what to do - - - I told him call 911 and then I started down. By the time I got there the fire department had hooked chains the the engine enclosers and tried to rip them off - - - could not get them off but bent them up pretty good.

This will be my first claim with this company and I've paid priemiums for about 10 years with them so I hope they pay as good as they charge.

George we always fight brush,I have had it dozed ,cut ,burnt ,sprayed etc.
its just part of ranching in this area,I have just ordered me a New Holland skid steer loader with a tree shear and brush grapple, lots of folks around here useing them for brush control, also can get tracks for them and a dozer blade,I will let you know how I like it pretty soon............good luck

George,
Does your dozer not have a fire extinguisher on board?

We have a small one we use here on the ranch, and it has one mounted right there in the cab....has had to be used a time or two even. but nothin ever got away from either Mr Lilly or his dad to the point that it burned beyond repair.

Yes but the operator paniced and tried to drive the dozer to a water hose instead of trying to put the fire out when it started. By the time the dozer stopped the fire must have been fierce - - - the fire men stated the flames were three foot above the hood ( perferated top for ventilation) and shooting out the grill.

When it stopped he called me to ask what to do. I stated call 911 and he said "Will the fire department come for a dozer fire???"

I guess your brain can fail in a panic.

No one was hurt and every thing else can be delt with.

LOL yeap I know about that brain lockin up in a moment of panic. One time our water heater busted, that was located in the closet no less.......water shootin out everwhere, and about 2 inches standin in the floor, I was at home alone......the kids were both little, and dummy me, the first thing I thought of was........turn the water off at the well......

When all I really had to do was go outside to the corner of the house and turn the water off where it came into the house. But instead I got in the truck and drove down to the well, about 250 yards from the house to turn it off. Creek between here and the well house......so I had to go out to the road and down to the corner, where the well's at.

After you have been thru a few stressfull situations you can work better under stress.

After my time in the Marines and years on the Sheriff's Dept. I feel I can react cooly in most situations any more but when I was younger I might have made the same mistake.

I'm sure the Insurance adjuster will make his own assesment of the situation however the bottom line is I don't see any way to salvage the dozer. I just bought a new very noce ROPS enclosure so that we could work in heat and dry during cold weather and remove during summer - - I'm sure it cannot be returned but possibly it can be modified to fit whatever I find to replace the dozer.
