Help 535 Deere Baler

Getting ready to go haying, started on the baler today. Had a belt that was torn a bit on one side. It is supposed to be 531 inches long (one of the 4 longer belts) and measures 526 inches.
The dealership is closed until morning or I would have called them.
I don't remember putting a belt in the wrong place last year when I had them all out to check how much they had stretched and there is not a belt that is too long elsewhere.
It is possible that I may have made 5 short belts in a seniors moment. :oops:
My question is if it is possible for this belt to have run all last year (about 1500 bales) and not have broken? I can't see it taking all the stress of the tension idler roller as it is an outside belt.

Any ideas?
 
As our old 530 neared the end of it's working and the belts got rotten we found ourselves constantly repairing broken belts on a daily basis. Every time you repair a belt it ends up a little shorter, and by the time we gave up on those belts and got new ones there were substantial differences in length. I would guess if your belts are in good shape it would have run like that for some time.
 
How is the hay. We are about 20% of last year. I cut my second year alfalfa field with a 24 ft swather instead of the diskbine. Hope yours is much better.
 
Since it's an outside belt, probably. Were your bales slightly uneven, as I would guess that would have been the main problem.
 
I don't know what the hay I did. :? Took off the opposite side belt and it is the same length as the first one. I bought a roll of new belting in 2005 and built them myself. I replace the connector pins every year but haven't had to repair a belt till now. Who knows what length the short ones are. :oops: :roll:
As I am a firm believer of if it ain't broke, don't fix it, I am going to repair it at it's current measurement and carry on. :wink:

Per, it isn't a bumper crop here but it will be a good average one. Maybe I can send you some hay in trade for the other deal. :D

I didn't know if you have ever sign up to john deers parts catalog online. Here is a link of your baler that might help you. I don't know if it will work for you are not if you don't have a john deers sign in acct. I use this a lot when I am working on our tractors to get the blueprint on how it goes together. You can also order parts straight from john deere using this and put in on your farmplan or check and see if your dealer has the part you need instock. If not you can order it this away and they will call you when they get it in. Its pretty helpful if you live along way from dealer.
 
Ask him if hay would be OK currency. :lol: What do you suppose it would cost to transport bulky hay over the great divide? :? :? Started baling today, I can already smell from my office those bales right now. Maybe I better book in a round of golf tomorrow to slow things up. :wink:
 
Backhaul from Cochrane to yours truly was $2200.00 two winters ago. This was on returning lumber trucks. What do they haul to BC that would create some empty trucks your way.

Don't know if those spoiled prairie cows would eat swamp hay. :P

Per, discussion today was along the lines of you delivering with your truck and a dropdeck setting up my power system and taking a load of hay back. :P :D

gcreek...I once went to visit a friend in southern Sask that was on my way or so I thought. It was only an inch or so on the map off where I was driving. Well 3 hours later we arrived. Your about a foot and a half from here on a small map. :shock: :shock: Maybe I should rethink this grand scheme. :wink: :-) How much hay can we get on an airplane? :? :?
