Help with alfalfa field

Our 5 yr old alfalfa stand has been really damaged by the voles or moles or whatever they are. Last year there was a few patches but this spring it is horrible. Don't want to redo it completly, so what would you you overseed with? One neighbor is going to use rye, just broadcast it on with the fertilizer.

Also, any ideas on getting rid of the pesky buggers. They are in the yard too.

Voles are very plentiful around here too, Nicky.
In fact, every where there was a snow drift in the trees (not
evergreen trees, thank God) they have stripped the bark
off the trees! They have done a lot of damage. It's hard
enough to get trees to grow in SE Montana without this!
We have 20 ft. Cottonwoods that the bark is stripped clear
to the top!! It's crazy and I'm sure the Cottonwoods
are dead. Makesme soooooo mad.
Me, and everyone else with damaged trees. Dirty buggers!! :x

Actually, they have stripped some of the bark off the
sagebrush, if you can imagine that!

anhydrous ammonia. tap into the vapor valve with a 3/8 line 20 foot or so, then a shut off ball valve and a 4 to 6 foot piece of pipe.
shove the pipe in a mound, pack the dirt around the pipe, and open the valve..... kills them DEAD. great in the yard cause it fertilizes as it kills...

BE VERY CAREFUL the stuff will kill you too!

A neighbor just below the Rock Wall near Elgin had about 50 barn cats on his place. He had 5 & 10 ac alfalfa patches in flat spots in the woods.

They kept on the voles.
