A lot of us smaller producers try to help each other when we get the chance. Started the afternoon helping on the quarter circle L. Rick is taking over for his Grand-dad and has a day job like a lot of us. We gathered the cows from some meadow ground and put them in the corral to sort off opens and older stuff that will get culled. It snowed two and 1/2 weeks ago here but it's been warm and dry since as you'll see from the dust.
We stuck a close bunch in the corral as the vet was early! :???:  Then Rick's grandpa, Clell, and i gathered the rest while Rick & Liz helped load the chute for the D.M.V.
Clell has forgotten more about cows and cowboy'n than some folks will ever know! He's in is late 70's and a wonderful man. Some days are better than others for him and his memory but he had a decent day yesterday and i sure enjoyed his company!
Pushin' them up the wing into the wire lot.
Clell stayed a horseback and i ran the alley and make-shift tub. Guess from that statement ya'll can see who's smarter!
He'd bring me 6 or 7 head and we'd stuff em' in.
It was dusty for late October. Dr. Gowans was preg checking for them. Ran 80 some-odd head through and had 6 open cows.
Here is the Doc earning his money! He is out of Tooele, about 40 miles away.
Clell is at home on a horse! He shared a story with me about breaking colts. Said his dad-in-law to be gave him a mustang to start when he was dating Maureen. Clell's brother was riding the horse clell had the colt snubbed to and being a brother, liked to "help" as much as possible! So first off he pitched the mustang a lot of slack and took off on a long trot. Clell told him to knock it off so he just pitched the lead rope to Clell and said if ya dont want my help, do it yourself. In Clell's words, "he ducked his head and went to buckin, but it was a nice easy pace and i rode him like a rockin' chair!" Understatement of the year award!
What a fine man! If i can get to be 1/2 the cowboy his is, i'll count myself fortunate!
Rick and Liz are a young couple with big plans and dreams! Sure hope nothing but the best for them and the ranch. They have big shoes to fill!
When we finished there i went out to rick's other grandpa's place to help bangs and brand some replacement heifers. The Olson's are great people and i cut my teeth working as a boy for them. They have a pretty place west of mine.
Lot's of meadow ground around the house and good mountain ground too.
My Dad came out to bs and help. Dr. Gowans got two squirrels with one throw on this trip!
Folks try to gang up on him when he's in the area code.
Cal(sitting down) is the boss and crowding 85. He can sit if he wants too!! His son John is the next generation and a fine school teacher. And Dr. Gowans is a good vet. Guess i was the only knothead present!
Burning hair on pretty heifers!
Property of the Lazy H ranch. We joke that the Leanin' H is just tired and has to lean over, but the lazy H is plumb give out and just flops over on the ground!
We got a lot done working together and had fun doing it! Hope ya'll help your nieghbors every chance ya can and smile the whole time!
