Had lightning start fires all the way around us last night. The worst fire is in Death Canyon west of us and near where i have been building fence. Then we have one northwest of us in the Davis Knolls and one due south in the sand dune area. It was 104F today with single digit humidity. We could sure use some rain. Tonight we went on a fire call that was a goose chase but came upon a 4 wheeler accident and helped a young man with a broke pelvis and dislocated hip. Got him stable and on a helicopter. Heading to bed as tomorrow looks like more of the same.

I think Utah needs a NASCAR race. Seems like there is always rain around the tracks they are trying to televise.

Thanks for the concern. We had another fire tonight that i just got back from. Only 5 acres but 3 homes within a half a mile. If anyone doesnt believe cows are helpful to the environment you can tell them this story. The west flank of the fire was stopped dead in its tracks by an 18 inch wide cow trail where cows had trailed in to water. And the fire was worst along the road right-of-way where cattle havent grazed but slowed down to fightable as it went onto private land where cows had grazed this spring. Wish i'd took a camera but my hands were full. :D It's gonna be one of them summers i am afraid. And on a tragic note.....19 members of a hotshot wildland fire crew were killed today in Arizona when a fire over took thier position. Thoughts and prayers to them and their families and friends.

That is just tragic. Those poor families to lose loved ones like that.
They are going to need all our prayers.

My girlfriend who lives near there, said the fires around Yosemite National Park are thought to be from arson.

Nice story about where the cows grazed regarding the fire.
Stay safe!!

The cows punched a scratch line for you, that's great!

I had just read about those shots getting burned over this morning. They deployed their shelters but it didn't save them. That's a tragic deal.

If you get a chance read John N. Mclean's book called the Esperanza Fire. It's about a Forest Service Engine Crew that was burned over in California. It's a good read.
