This is a pic of one of last years three way cross steers-I don't have any of this years-I just phoned the feedyard and they cleaned the pen. alot of ranches and cattle will beat us on raw performance and age at slaughter but they did ok. The A.D.G was 4.25/lbs day and the cost of gain was 63 cents. Not bad for scrubby little uneven crossbreds-harvest weight was around 1350 net-to think they only 30-50 percent of the only breed worth raising lol.The new grid is taking some getting used too-we probably fed these cattle 30 days too long because we had some Y3's. were averaging 95% AAA's over the last several years so we can knock some days off feed and still be ok. It would be nice if the beef business could leave all the best colour B.S. behind and just raise and market cattle on their economic merit.

Here's a worthless redhided steer-both steers are three way crosses-the top steer is a Horned Hereford bull on a south devon/angus cow while this steer is a south devon bull on a angus/horned hereford cow. the only difference I can tell is the colour of their hide-they both made a little bit of money. It only took one go at feeding my own cattle to quit believing the auction mart/order buyer line.

I like the looks of that red steer (without the white face). I have some half saler, half RA steers that he reminds me of. Nice calves all the way through Northern. Heterosis makes money for anyone.

The yotes bob the odd tail for us-wolves aren't much for camping on a group of calving cows-when the bitches are raising pups they eat more beaver etc than anything. The most trouble wolves cause is late summer if cattle are out in open country-they can run alot of weight off yearlings teaching pups to hunt. if your at all handy with a rifle you can thin them out pretty easy then too. They really don't seem to bother tame stock up here much-our friends have about 300 ewes and 200 cows right between the Meadow and Beaver rivers which has alot of wolves in it.

they look great well done! someone on here once said that heterosis was the last free thing in the business. in about 5 weeks I will get some of those bennett total black angus sired calves out of my hereford cows. cory I have not mailed those books yet.... will try to get out next week. I am gonna try and go back out west and chase some of those kitty cats, that was a blast. Shawn

was watching your buddies guiding outfit on Wild TV the other day Shawn they took a decent 5x5 buck. Ty and I going through severe hunting withdrawal-counting days till spring bear. I'm sure you'll be prettyu happy with the Bennet Totals-he's a bull who Ilike even though e's not my favorite pedigree. Now I just need to get you using Lad on those black cows . mr.kaiser hopefully going to check out your critters next week if my neighbor and I can fit it around hockey-his kids are in the WHL and AAA Midget and I'm in Tier One Atom and AA Midget lol. Hard to ranch around the rink loll.
