-16F here last night and up the valley 20 miles they hit -26F. Bitter cold again tonight. Thanks for the chilly air.

Had'nt heard that disscription of ''how cold it is'" before. One here that used to make me smile was "colder than a old maids bed" . All I guess a fair way to assess a dismal bit of weather. How many of you remember before 4wheel drives and before tractor with cab's. Then was problems and when people got tough. Saw in a oldtimers obituary the other day how " he always had the fire going early for his wife and kid's and always had the coal and kindling done at night". Had some young fella's out to do a small job just when this weather took this nasty turn and had to move some snow . Told them to get their scoop shovel and they did'nt have one. We live 20 miles from town and only one neighbor between. Blew my mind to think that they would leave home that un prepared. Times does change!!

I remember feeding with a wd allis and a chain to drag bales out no cab. Would'nt want to try that now. When I first started I bought my hay and once a week would buy a load and push the bales off by hand.
