How many frost free days do you get in a year on average.

how does the grass grow in those conditions. Frost here makes grass turn brown.

Grass is all cool season trick is to not have frost befoe it heads out. Alfalfa can take a little frost and keep growing, usually 26 degrees is the limit.
2 years ago we had mid 80s for highs and lows in the high 20s. worst grass and hay year I had ever seen.
