That is a new one for me, as I'd never heard it before. Ol' Tom wrote and sang a lot of good songs.
Years ago, a neighbor was traveling through Martin, South Dakota in the wee hours of the morning, to meet with a friend to go fossil hunting in the Badlands. He happened to be going 70 mph in a 35 mph speed zone, and darned if a town cop wasn't up very early that morning also. My poor neighbor got pulled over and was taken straight to jail. He was allowed the usual one phone call, so he used this privilege to notify his wife of his predicament. She then had to get hold of the fossil hunting friend to call off the days activities. My neighbor spent all that day in jail before he was finally released. I always kid him that Tom T. Hall's song, "A Week in a Country Jail," was possibly written just for him. :wink:

The song "A Week in a Country Jail" has been around a long time, but I have not ever hear the song "A Hat Full of Feathers" before Big Muddy posted the link. Maybe I just missed it completely back in 1978 when it came out.

When I first clicked on the link I got "I spent a week in a country jail" so I thought that was what he referenced to. I just clicked on it again and got "A hat full of feathers" which I had not heard before either.So thanks, BMR, for the link to a Tom T. Hall song I hadn't heard. And sorry that I thought it was "A week in a country jail."
