Hi Hog chutes

I have had one of the older models for about 15 years now... It was set up with a manual straight pull head catch at each end- so a guy could just spin it around for brands on different sides without any mechanic work... Not sure if I'd buy another like it.. At the time the price was right- but I've used others that work better...
After a few years of bouncing calves on their side my son had to weld some braces on the legs you tip the calf on - as they were breaking/bending... The pipe they used was just too light...

I see the new ones Hi Hog is selling are redesigned with self catch head gate and a gate at the back (to keep calf from backing up when headgate is released and the calf behind from getting out when chute is tipped)...
I'm not a fan of self catch headgates as it seems like you always have too many getting thru...Maybe this one is better...

Soap, I was in Valentine Yesterday and they did not have a for-most so I will have to look at another store when I get somewhere. Still trying to make up my mine what I want for sure. Thanks!

I would vote for the formost one for calves. We looked at a lot of chutes when we replaced our old one after 30 years, and the formost has been really good. Easy to use, easy to switch sides, easy to do bigger calves and the self catch has worked perfectly on several hundred calves so far (important when you are working alone).

We have Johnson and a cow country and really like both. They are basically the same design except the cow country is all steel and the Johnson is steel frame with redwood plank. I do think I like the cow country a touch better though.

Lancaster's in Cody had one the other day. Probably still there, unless that is the one that Soap has. I thought there was one at the COOP in Valentine too, but I haven't looked out back there for a couple months.

As of yesterday, the Co-op in Valentine has a brown colored HW brand calf table available. Right now, there is a 15% off sale going on, which makes the new calf table priced at $760 after the discount. It looks like it would work fairly well.
