High Corn Prices Coming

Freezing temps in the Corn Belt, very little Fall tillage done, WET Ground and now COLD......Very littel Anhydrous applied last Fall........ Do not buy into 90M+ Corn Acres.....it Ain't gonna happen and if it does, look for Yield Reductions. I would bet if it stays WET and that is the forecast, we will see those BIG USDA BS CORN Acres dwindle to 83-85 M at best. THAT spells $5.00+ CORN! Peraonally, I hope the fertilizer boys get that $575 + @ TON Anhydrous shoved up their FANNIES! AND PIONEER gets that HIGH PRICED SED CORN GOIN IN THE SAME DIRECTIONS. THIS IS OUR LAST YEAR PLANTING PIONEER! !!!!!
 
Oh I would be willing to bet $2.00 corn will be more like it come fall one thing farmers are good at is over produceing and driveing the prices down.Even though seed cost have risen most all the REAL GOOD grain farmers had their fuel,fertilizer and seed contracted months ago...If you did'nt you should have #2 farm fuel was 1.89 per gallon Jan 31 here now its 2.38 and climbing you could have locked in seed prices last november for $109 per bag in Roundup Ready from Fielders Choice with no money down until delivery.Conventional seed is all over here for 40 to 60 bucks a bag how much do you want.I got my RR Cornseed for $92 per bag.

As far as feeding corn I have fed 2 ton of a 14% cattle feed to some bulls which is mostly mid pellet's, oats, soymeal and corn everything else is getting wet distillars grains I have been feeding 6000#s per day its 65% moisture at a price of $8.50 per ton.As the ethanol industries develops and changes so will the cattle feeding industry but there will be plenty of corn to go around.

Dont worry my Grain Growing relatives won't let us down..
 
Don't forget those same freezing temps mean a whole lot of wheat acres are going to have to switch to something else, probably a lot of corn.
 
HI 2 dollar Corn MAYBE?????? Probably NOT.... LOW 2 DOllar Corn....NOT A CHANCE IN HELL! BUT if for some unforseen reason we see 2 buck Corn I would say we will have a pretty big economic crises in Agriculture. Remember inputs have doubled or more! Lets hope it stays between 3-4 bucks and we all can make a living.
 
My bigger "fear' than the cold weather causing problems with planting is that the forcasts are not exactly calling for a good moisture summer for much of teh corn belt... They keep talking about an 18 year cycle being the longest there has been for a widespread, major drough over the cornbelt area and they are talking drought on the scale of 1988 when they say widespread major drought... This would be year 19 we are entering.. You get something like that that roles down the pike and it won't matter if they plant 20 million more acres....

But one thing you can't control is weather, but betting on 2.00 corn again, well.... Idon't think I like the odds..
 
No matter how high the corn market gets, the cattle industry is better equiped to handle it than either poultry or swine industris are.
 
If your that confident in high corn prices, lock in some loads for Oct-Dec delivery. There is a discount compared to today's cash price.

I don't think the price is going much higher than it is now, but it isn't going to crash downward either.

Denny has it nailed, take advantage of the cheap by-products. $8.50 a ton even for wet material is cheap feed. You can't afford to feed hay at that price. You only need enough rumen scratch to keep the cows functioning.
 
Two thoughts...Everytime one of my feed inputs has become outrageously priced, in the long run I am better off..It forces me to look at alternatives...So, yes, things can change for the better...

Second thot..I was pretty young when we as a Nation went Wall to Wall Wheat Plantings in th 70"s...All the hype....Maybe not his year, but corn will likely get cheaper....I don't know now much though...

OK, third thought....If Beef can stay High ($90 Fats)......Maybe high corn isn't so bad....Get some of our friends off of Welfare Farming that they don't really enjoy....And,it puts our Non-Ruminant compettive meats at a disavantage...Hmmmmm...Interesting thread,

I wish we could get it for 8.50 a ton wet... Most of the places around here now are booked up,, your lucky if you can get a load out sometimes.. The new plant going up local is selling all of its dry they are saying (I have a hard time believing this personally).. Still have hopes for the plant down south and east of us a bit. It will be the first one on line of the 4 being planned/built within 50 miles of here.. . If nothing else are trucking wll go down significantly just because the milage will be cut down so far...

One possibility that was floated to me recently was some sweat corn cannery silage.. Still waiting to hear about the cost.. About all I know is that it is super wet when you get it so it has to be CHEAP to pencil out... But with that, some distillers and lots of stalks well, it will be cheaper than hay..
 
I really dont know about high corn prices coming up...Im thinking high wheat prices coming for sure because of all the cold weather and moisture. Im guessing the winter wheat is going to be hurt with the warm weather in march and this cold weather now. I hope it didnt freeze it off. I think soybeans are going to end up dropping because alot of the corn and wheat acres will be shifted to beans.

Possibly not so bad as might first appear for the pig market, Smithfields bought ahead from Brazil last year, and so will be covered for this season, this doesn't mean they won't take advantage of higher price though! I will stick to my forage raised Tuli cattle, they have never let me down in over 30 years of severe environment catlle breeding in Africa, and are doing really well here.
 
Corn may not be as high as some think. I think it will get over planted this year. Those that have booked it will do fine but those that did not will not see as big a price. Yes corn will be up not that $7 that some are saying. I think $3 to $4. Yes that is high but it could be worse if it don't rain.
 
I have to question what is high for corn prices??? 3-4 dollars is really not all that high a price for corn... Figure in the cost to plant it... Corn farmers have taken a beating for years.... If I have to choose between a rag head and a farmer... You bet I'll choose a farmer....

AMEN Katrina-- Its about time all agriculture produce prices came into the real world....
