hmmmmmmmm

:shock: Now theres a thought. Ok Canadian but heres my input,our government would literally go broke if we held them accountable for wildlife collisions...not a word of a lie either
 
no one controls wildlife.......if that was the case, it would be WILD any more. The state trys to manage it as best as they can.

What about cattle then........who is responsible if a cow is hit? The driver or the owner of the cow? Now those are domesticated.....not wild.

I have been all over this fine state and i see signs that say "watch for cattle on the road" and you sure see "deer crossing" signs also, and cattle crossing for that matter.

We have a farm insurance that covers a accident with our cattle or horses,so I guess we're responsible.

Where you going with this :???:

If you hit a cow/calve in SD, the driver is responsible. That means you pay to fix your car and you pay the farmer/rancher market slaughter price for the animal. Unless you can prove that the farmer consistantly had cows out or neglected his fencing duties, then the farmer is responsible.

SJ, not to far back there was legislation introduced that would require the driver in a deer hit to reimburse the state for damages, something like $100/deer. I wouldn't get to crazy about who ownes what!

Do you suppose that might have opened the door for livestock and feed loss by wildlife?
 
I think it makes alot of sense that the state should only own the deer three weeks out of the year, collect the revenue from the licenses, and let them eat on the farmers and ranchers dime. Totally makes sense to me.

Little hint for you SD. If you have permission to hunt somewhere, be very good to that landowner. Dont ask him to let any of your buddies come with you next year. Pick up your garbage. Shut the gates. Tread lightly and keep your mouth shut. If you do that, there is a good chance you will be able to hunt there for a long time. As of right now, you are pissing alot of people off and ruining it for nonlandowners!

I don't know who did and it has been 5 years ago or so. I'll try to find something on it when I get more time.

Oldtimer, in NO WAY am I pointing ANY finger at Betty. To be quite honest this would have came before her. If she's reintroduced something similar, I have no knowledge of it. Nor do I care! I think it's a dumb idea!

This is where you and me will never agree. Don't come on here and play CRY about how much the deer and other critters takes away from you when you don't allow hunting or think you are owed mega bucks for it.

Do you charge an exterminator to come kill termites in your house?? Didn't think so!! There are plenty of decent people that you can allow to hunt. I don't care if it's me, SDH, or whoever. You want rid of them, allow hunting. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Also, how does insurance see a deer/car accident. Is there a deductable?
 
The driver/owner of the car is responsible for their deductable and their insurance covers everything else. I dont think the landowner is responsible for anything, I beleive that the auto insurance covers the aniamal lost alos?
There is a Bill introduced this year doing just that but not just deer all wildlife.....and then if it is only unintentiionable accident....I suppose the highway patrol will be out asking the deer or skunk if the car swerved to hit them....not only a ridicoulous Bill but really kind of humourous....and a lot of wasted time when our Legislature could be working on meaningful Legislation.

I've been insured with State Farm for 30 years. Here, if I hit a deer, there is no deductible. They allow that because there are so many around here. I think they allow 1 a year.
 
i thought there was no deductable also. Thank you for the info.

I just find it ironic that if i hit a cow out west river or anywhere else in SD, I pay for my damages and the cow, yet some crazy legislator wants the gfp to pay for an accident with a wild animal.
 
There is no common sense in a bill of this nature! Even though I don't live in SD I have seen this rumored bill on the net, and when LB was found on it, I just had to chuckle. :lol:

So the people on here are supposed to sit down,shut up and move to the back of the bus? Get real. Everyone has a right to debate public bills and those that are in print. SDH and others are making some of you mad and then your going to not let hunters on to hunt?
You like to curtail freedom of speech and pressure people with your land? Who would want it?

The wildlife is owned by all people and all people pay for the control, conservation and esthetic value of it! Every taxpayer either directly or indirectly pays into wildlife management of every state! So LB being the anti Game Dept person she is,wants to break the very dept she has a bug in her hair about! She should had introduced the bill in your state as one paid by all tax payers and not just your game commision. The wildlife doesn't belong just to the hunters,trappers and fisherman ,so then total up the yearly amount needed to reimburse all those critter hitters and go in front of all tax payers of your state and tell them that amount is needed from their pay checks and see how that one fairs with the people of SD? Then 1/4 of the money from those taxes can be given to the very dept she hates and they can use it for more control measures and R&D to control the population better! birth control measures, etc etc. The other 3/4's should you give back to insurance company's?
I just solved the problem for ol' LB and all those critters being hit. A win/win, her insurance company will get a kick back on wildlife collision repairs and the game dept could do more work on thinning numbers.
Ah who am I kidding, just another ploy for her to see the dept fail. Just where this bogus bill will end up failed.
